In engine compartment, find the coolant resevoir, usually on the passenger side, looks like a squarish plastic jug. The cap will be labeled. Sometimes the cap will tell you what type of coolant. If not, open resevoir and look at coolant color. It will either be green or orange. Get proper color of 50/50 coolant at parts store, the clerk there can give you the proper type you ask for.

Where is the coolant temperature sensor located on a 2006 Buick Lucerne 3.8L V-6 3800 series 3 engine

It's been a bit, but if I remember correctly, it should be on the right side if you are standing in front of the vehicle under the air intake. Like right above the transmission bell housing. It is kind of tough to get to, seems like it was under the coolant inlet.

We are looking into buying a 2007 Buick Lucerne CXL v-6 with 89,000 miles. What type issues are we looking at? I noticed it has a timing chain, when do they need to be changed, if it breaks what type of...

A very nice comfortable automobile:) No concerns with timing belts...no other major concerns...they hold resale value well don't they:) At 89,000 miles you early maintenance concerns will be have the brakes been replaced...have the front rear struts been replaced? Tranny fluid filter serviced yet? Also should replace plugs and wires by 100,000, also look at wear on serpentine belt...coolant serviced? These are minor concerns, but will definitely affect your enjoyment of this premium Buick:)

I have a 2006 Buick Lucerne CXS and I'm wondering

There are 2 different engines that came in the Lucerne in 2006 and I am not sure which one the CXS had. In any case below are pictures of both engines as well as locations. If you have the 3.8 liter (6 cylinder) engine you can add coolant directly to the radiator in the spot marked "A". But on your regular fluid checks you want to make sure that where the "B" is marked that the overflow tank there has fluid up to the line that says "full". If you have the 4.6 liter (8 cylinder) engine the overflow tank and where you fill up the radiator are the same (location "A") so that is the location you would fill the radiator as well as check to make sure there is coolant to the "full" line on the tank on your regular fluid checks, When you look at the pictures below you will understand easier. I hope this helps and good luck.
