My 2005 Ford Ranger gets stuck in "park". I start the truck, pull the handle towards me and it doesn't want to move to any other gear. I have been able to turn off the engine, put the key in and not start the engine, put the gear in neutral and then turn the engine on and am able to move into reverse or drive after that. I have taken the truck to be fixed, but this keeps happening. What is wrong?

Um, what kind of transmission? Standard or automatic? What gear?
Generally if it's an automatic and stuck in drive or reverse it's probably a linkage issue ...something's out of adjustment and you'll need to get under the truck to sort it out. If it is stuck in Park, then try rocking it backward or forward while some tries to move it out of park ...sometimes the parking awl gets hung up when the vehicle rolls a bit after you put it in park.
If you have a standard tranny then there is something amiss internally. Modern standard floor shift trannies do not have any external linkages to go out of adjustment. You might try rocking the vehicle back and forth while someone tries to move the shifter to neutral. But if it's jammed chances are it is something internal that's failed.
Do you mean the gear selector physically won't move into the Park position or that it does move to indicate it is in Park but will still roll?
I'm sure you know you have to pull the gear selector toward you to get it into Park.
i just had this problem 3 weeks ago, when i tried to move the stick down it seems like it was stuck, i was 500miles away from home so as a last resort i pulled it down with all the strength i had(fyi im a guy) and it fixed it lol; it is up to you if you want to try this since it might break the stick. I havent had it stuck again since, i makes a light click when its taken out of park now thought..hope this helps
this is just a suggestion but the steering wheel lock may be malfunctioning try while whith your left hand jerking your steering wheel counter clock wise while jostling your ignition with your keys securely in the ignition towards the start direction. this may not be it but it does happen
hi take the park brake off. Select N on gear selector and try and push the car. You may need some help. If the car will not move .Your brakes are stuck .If it rolls then it is a gearbox problem
