Depending in the car and how it us a tually fixed in place, or attached to the bidy of the vehicle. You can some times attach some electrical wire to the brake/side of the cable ie the end, then when pulling the cable out from over the tank, (Providing there are no fixings holdin it in place above yhe tank) Leaving the wire attached as not to compltle follow the barkecables, in place then attach the newcables to the wite and pull back iver the tank toward the brakes again.
This works prividing there is sufficant space. Without kbowing the type if vehical its a little hard to advise! Giod luck!
If you remove the center console you should be able to get at your adjusting screw. The end of the brake cable where it attaches to the brake handle will usually have a large threaded area for adjustment with an adjustment nut and a jamb nut. Simply loosen the jamb nut and set the desired cable tension with the adjustment nut and tighten the jamb nut back down. Then replace the console. If you are unable to get the desired tension at the cable you might have worn brake shoes that need replacing.
The handbrake adjust is normally under the vehicle. The cable either splits into 2 cables or more likely, goes directly to a small curved bar. The single cable has a threaded end that goes through the bar with a nut on the end. Raise and secure the vehicle on jackstands before you crawl underneath. Look at one of the back wheels - you'll see a cable coming out to the front. Follow this cable to where it either crosses over the aforementioned bar or is connected to it. In the middle of this bar you'll see the nut from the front cable - Use a sharpie or other felt tip pen to mark the thread at the nut on the back side .Adjust this nut so it travels forward( towards the front of the vehicle) 5 or 6 threads , and check the handbrake to see if it's ok. Sometimes you can remove the cover over the handbrake and find an adjuster there - you may have to remove the center console if you have one. Hope this helps!
Problem will be with the rear brake shoes. Very likely one of 2 handbrake cables corroded and snapped.
Access to handbrake is under the plastic centre console - then under flap in carpet. Should be a ballance bar that should be equal 90 degrees. If it's not - replace both handbrake cables. DIY job -but you need a 2ft breaker bar for the Hub nuts.
hi your handbrake has two ajustment places one is under the handbrake lever the outher one is situated under the car each back wheel has a cable running from it follow this cable and where the two join you will find the ajustment screw and locking nuts please note if after ajusting you still have a problem you will neen a new cable as the old one will have been fully streached
if you are able and be safe by chocking the wheels, lay on your back and look on the inside of the back wheels and this will tell you a little more of what you are dealing with. If you heard a bang then your cable has either come loose at eh back hubs or your cable has snapped loose from the handbrake underneath. This better probably be checked as soon as possible because you may be only using your front brakes to stop now, because your parking brake is tied in with your rear brakes.
theres only two places a adjustment would be the easest way is to lift your handbrake three clicks either under the handle you will see a nut on a threaded bolt turn the nut in until the slack makes tighten hard dont over tighten push button drop handle back down now if the adjustment nut is not under the handle under the car you will see your rear cables going into a single cable all three joined by a adjustment bolt with nut hold with pliers three clicks up on handle turn nut in till slack is gone drop handle back down
The handbrake adjustment is at the handbrake. Pull off the rubber boot around the hand brake. (it pulls open at the botto of the handle and slips off over it). Next locate the 10mm bolt under the rear cup holder (there may be a little felt in there covering it). Remove the bolt.
Lift the console at the rear, it should pop loose at the front and lift up. You should have clear access to the adjustment bolt. Loosen the 10mm locking nut and this should allow you to adjust the cable.
Turn the adjustment clockwise to tighten the cable and once adjusted, re-tighten the locking nut. Reverse the whole process to put the console etc back together.
