Why my Mazda 5 2006 model sometimes its hard to shift the gear from Park position to Drive every time I start the car even I press the break pedal hard. I need to pump the break manny time before its shift to drive. What is the problem?

I had the same exact problem a few months back. I found that if you look up high on the brake pedal, you will find a switch that it hits to activate the brake light. This also serves as an interlock switch for you to switch the vehicle out of park. There are plastic tab holding the switch in place to replace it. They are a bit pesky. Once you get it loose, you can follow the wires coming from it and unplug it. Once that is done.. you just reverse the process and install the new one. Putting the new one back in went much faster for me. Its about a 1 hour job at most and the part runs about $18 from the dealer. Have fun!

2000 Mazda MPV, does not start and the transmision panel is bliking some time

Usually this is due to the position of the gear shift, brake or clutch. Most vehicles require one or more of the following to start the engine:

1) Transmission in "Park" (or "Neutral" if a standard)
2) Clutch Pressed in fully (if a standard)
3) Pressure on Brake Pedal (on some newer vehicles - enough to make brake lights come on)

If you're doing what you used to have to do normally to start the car, you may have a bent linkage that prevents the car's electronics from detecting that the car is indeed in park. If an auto transmission, try pushing the shifter further towards park - or in some cases - more towards the Neutral position.

Stick is lock on park cant put on drive by pressing break wy

have friend bump car just a little to move it apply break put on parking break
start vehicle press brake take out of gear let off emergency brake
you park on hill so this is called shift lock always use the emergency parking break when on hill so you dont get shift lock

My 2008 Chevy impala will not come out of park

The
shifter needs to be inspected. Its quite possible that The
shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.








There
are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and
suddenly this shifting problem occurred then its shifter
assembly alignment issue.

Problem starting, when brakes applied the car shows cycling through gears.

Truly strange. There is an interlock system for the start circuit. It ties in several parts so that the brakes have to be applied, the shifter needs to be in Park or Neutral, and then turn the key to start.

If the switch at the top of the Brake pedal lever gets bumped out of position or even broken by feet, the starting circuit will not be complete. If she is in a position to see the brakelights work, then have her press on the brake pedal to verify the brakelights go on.

If the brakelights fail to work, the switch will lock out the starter. Having some indication of gears shifting in the display also can mean there is an alignment issue with the shift linkage.

As I said earlier, it is an interlock and it ties in the position of the shift mechanism, brake pedal, and ignition switch.

Sometimes you can just repostion the brake lever switch back into the fixture and everything will work again.

The only other idea, is to discionnect the NEG battery terminal for 10 minutes and see if the system boots up when the parts are reconnected.

Finally, the Battery. A weak battery will trigger anti-theft lockouts. Some cars are more sensitive to low voltage than others. A tow truck may be able to jump the current battery to see if the lockout cancels with the added voltage of the jumpers.

Gear shift won't move from Park sometimes. It's stuck!

If the car is inclined severly the shifter will be harder to move as more of a load rests on the park gear. You may have to pull it hard but should come out of park. Make sure your foot is firmly on the brake pedal too and the key is in the on position

Doesnt come out of park

I would say it is a problem with the shift interlock.

The truck should have never come out of park without using the brake pedal. If it did, and the brake lamps worked correctly, chances are the shift interlock solenoid is the problem.

Quick test, with the engine off, turn the key to the run position ( do not start ), press the brake pedal and put into neutral.

If this works correctly, the shift interlock is the problem. Start with checking the fuse.

Gear shift stuck

I am having the same problem with my 05 Altima. For a temporary rememdy we took stuck a key down into the release hole in front of the gear shift. There may be a little cover over the hole, but if you take it off and stick something in it, it will release the shifter.

Shift lever not shifting out of park mode even though the engine is starting fine?

If your shift lever is on the stirring colum, there is a button in the colum itself directly underneath the lever that usually retracts whrn you press the breaks, but in this case it isn;t. Simply remove the right portion of the stirring colum and press the button and put in gear while holding it that is a quick solution on putting it in gear but it is not a permenent fix.
