I had the same exact problem a few months back. I found that if you look up high on the brake pedal, you will find a switch that it hits to activate the brake light. This also serves as an interlock switch for you to switch the vehicle out of park. There are plastic tab holding the switch in place to replace it. They are a bit pesky. Once you get it loose, you can follow the wires coming from it and unplug it. Once that is done.. you just reverse the process and install the new one. Putting the new one back in went much faster for me. Its about a 1 hour job at most and the part runs about $18 from the dealer. Have fun!
