The radiator cooling fan is probably thermostatically controlled. When the engine is hot the fan will probably run for a while when the engine is off. If it continues to run the temperature sensor may be bad. If your battery is running down the fan may be the problem.

My cooling fan stays on my 2000 jeep cherokee. Even with the ignition key off.

That is normal, the system is designed this way to prevent the overheating of the engine's head when you shut down the engine without allowing it to cool itself to an acceptable temperature.

My jeep 2000 Grand Cherokee Larado is over heating. I have changed the thermostat and coolant. The fan seems to stop turning when it over heats. What can be causing the fan to stop when it should be...

Replace the cooling fan clutch. It is the silverish round device that the fan attaches to. This component is heat sensitive and will only function correctly when hot. They are known to fail over time. Also inspect the radiator for good coolant flow. DO THIS when engine is cold only or have a shop check it out for you.

A relay for the fan in the engine compartment of the heater/AC fan ? The relay for the engine fan is on the right fenderwell by the battery and has a black cover over it. Lift the cover and you will see on the underside of the cover which relay is for the engine fan.
