My 2006 Chevy impala 3.9L oil pump failed, the thing is that my oil light never came on, i checked my oil almost every weekend sometimes twice a week and without notice my car suddenly jerked a few times and cut off, i had the car towed to the shop it it appears my engine blew up, can you please explain how this could happen, why did my oil sensor come on to inform me that the pressure was low so i could have pulled the car over and not destroyed my engine, now I'm out of $3,500

May just have been a faulty sensor , oil level being ok doesn't mean getting sufficient oil pressure

SOURCE: TPMS on 2006 Chevy Impala

I have an 05 impala and there is a setting in the Radio to reset the oil life and TPMS system, I'd look in the owners manual to see how to access this feature on the 06 but it should be there.

SOURCE: Reset my engine oil low in 2007 chevy impala

you sould be able to reset that from the dash ,these options beside the dash go to the end and when you get to oil and % press on the checkmark and that would do the trick.

SOURCE: OIL PRESSUE LOW

You probably have a bad oil pressure sending unit or a bad connection to it.

SOURCE: A light comes on in my car that says oil pressure

If the light is only turning on during acceleration or deceleration and then goes off, this is normal. If the light is constant, and you are sure you have oil that is up to the "full" or "max" level on the dipstick while hot, then it might point to a faulty oil pump or worn gaskets that will no longer prevent the oil from staying in place in the engine. Is this light accompanied by a check engine light. If so what is the code. You may also have a faulty oil sensor. Hope this helps

My 2008 Chevy impala dash says low oil pressure what does that mean?

Several things: 1. Faulty oil pressure sensor (replace it (cheap)) 2.. insufficient oil (check it (cheap)) 3. blocked oil filter or oil journals (replace it and change oil) 4. oil pump failing (garage job) 5. badly worn engine bearings (garage job - usually expensive.)

Whatever it is, you should check it NOW. If you wait very long, the engine will fail.

Lucky you! I have the same issue with my '06 Impala LT. It is run off the serpentine belt and it is at the top front of the engine. I plan to replace mine next weekend so I'll take notes, and let you know how it is done and what to watch out for. The dash panel on my car keeps telling me to tighten my gas cap,

Assuming you mean the gas cap being replaced, this can also be the result of a vacuum leak. Look around on the engine and see if there are any vacuum hoses related to the fuel system. If your engine has a plastic cover it is under that. Remove the cover. Most are held down by the oil fill tube which generally unscrews, sometimes reverse threaded.

Engine light comes on and says engine overheating

Could be three things: Hopefully the first...
1. radiator fan not blowing. (most likely)
2. Radiator clogged (not likely)
3. Head gasket blown... (very possible)

If #1, system cannot detect fan not blowing. It may be the fuse or the relay switch, disconnecetd wire at fan, or burned-out fan motor.
If #2, Flush radiator
If #3, you will see WHITE smoke out the tailpipe and excessive water drops.
Your new oil will have a "milky" look (check the oil dipstick). That is water.
When engine is COLD, remove radiator cap and start car. You will notice high-pressure "bubbles" squirt out of the radiator, even before the engine warms up.

I hope it is #1. and that this is helpful.

2006 chevy impala won't shift out of park, and steering wheel won't lock

check for broken wires under the floor shifter at the BTSI connector..the 06 impala had shift solenoid problems often. If thats ok then...remove the negative battery cable and turn key to the on position...try to shift in to Neutral...if your are able to shift, the brake switch is faulty.
Good luck...i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.
