I just added freon for the summer and it blew cold air for a few days then stopped. There are no leaks, it has full pressure for the freon and the compressor runs. Why is it not blowing out cold air??
Id say you have to go into it and see. Sounds like the compressor is
not running. The small copper pipe should be warm and the big copper
pipe cold and wet. Could be anything low pressure switch ,wire off, cap
gone???????

A mechanic would check the system with a set of pressure gauges. If the compressor is running, the low side would read around 30psi and the high side would be around 250psi. That is how you know if the system is full of freon or not. You may have to get a professional diagnosis to proceed. If you replace the compressor, the accumulator needs to be replaced and a vac pump is used to pull all of the air out before the freon is added.
Well I have a few Ideas for you. One, it has a leak and your dealer needs to find it..... Now if he is using a recover machine that weighs out the same refrigerant as he is putting in, I would say, ok, no leak you have other issues. One is has he used or is he using die in the oil. If so he needs to replace the receiver/drier replace the TXV valve and run a cleaning (flush) agent through your system. If you do not have a leak then there is too much oil in the system and he is adding to that oil with die every time he is adding die to the system. If you pull out all the freon then add it back the oil gets pulled out of the evap and condenser coils for a brief time, as you run the A/c it will work it's way back into the evap. where it hurts the systems ability to cool. Next Idea, is to teach you how to put freon in it your self. But first have the dealer run the flush through the system replace the drier, and see how long it last then. If he does that and that does not fix it. learn how to add freon, it is very easy.
Chances are you have a pretty fast freon leak, and the passenger side will be blowing warm within a few days. I have the same thing happen on a couple of my GM cars, except my leak is very slow; warm driver's side, cold passenger side.
You can try and top off the freon again, but I suspect you're going to have to take it to a shop to find the leak and get it fixed. Plan on spending some big dollars for the repair.
If it blew cold air after freon added and 5 days later blew warm, you may have a leak in the system. Also check and see if compressor comes on if not you may have an electrical issue, relay for compressor, coil on compressor, etc.......
you may have a small freon leak. Autozone has a leak detection kit. Being summer, this may have been going on for quite sometime.
since you need it now you now noticed it has not been working. By adding freon without looking for a leak the freon you put in may leak out in a few days
Its a leak ...probably concealed like in an evap housing or rear air unit and lines (if it has that). Prob at this juncture I would remove all the freon and bring system into a vaccuum with a pump and see if it will hold vaccum for an extended period of time. A bad leak will not hold srong vacuum very long and much cheaper than wasting expensive and enviromental un0friendly refrigerants.
More likely the recharge blew a o-ring and you have a leak. When your Cavalier was blowing hot air and a recharge fixed it that means it was low on freon which lets o-rings dry out, go back to the shop and have them leak test it. They use a pressurized dye to find the problem. If it's blowing it's not the cooling fan relay, they may have meant compressor relay but I'd have a leak test done first it's not expensive and easier that chasing unknown possibilities.
