Both rear shock's are bad need a picture ofhow they are disassembled any help with be good

im not familiar with the grand prix but i think you have struts not shocks
look in the wheel well above the tire and see if there is a big spring over it.
if there is then its a strut and you need spring compresser tools to remove them.

This car does not have rear shocks, it has struts, you will need a strut compressor to replace them, also this model has a problem with the upper bearing mount they go bad a lot and make a knocking noise when you hit a bump. try this see if you can by the strut as a complete assy. they are offered that way but not by all parts stores. if you buy them as an assy. them all you have to do is jack up the rear of the car and put jack stands under it, remove the rear wheels, open the trunk and get in remove the carpet/cardboard covers over the wheel wells, and remove the 3 nut that hold the top of the strut assy. then remove the lower mount bolts. and swap out the hole-assy......HAVE FUN

HOW TO REMOVE REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS 2006 RAV4

Difficulty: Easy-ish
Time: About 1 hour
Tools: Two 17mm spanners - ring and open. Long spanners may help.

As the chart below shows, it's quite normal for a shock absorber to have traces of oil around the top. However leaks like level 3 to 1 mean the shock absorber (SA) needs replacing.

Probably a good idea to replace in pairs.

As always, apply hand-brake, chock the opposite front wheel and without the vehicle raised, slightly slacken off the road wheel nuts.

Loud noise in rear of car. sounds like a loose 2003 ford taurus

it is quite possible that you have a bad strut mount, noticeable by rubber moving from metal, or a leaking strut, looking at the strut you would see hydraulic fluid on it. also sometimes removal and disassembly is the only way to tell. also you could check for bad sway bar links or bushings. hope this helps

The rear shocks poped through the shock tower on my 2001 sebring. What needs to be replaced?

It sounds like what you described, the shock tower mounts needs to be replaced. I believe you can buy that tower mount are the dealer and have the old one cut out and the new one welded in place. If your lucky it's just the rear strut mount it self when bad and the shocks when through the shock tower mounts which is a part of the body of the car. Good luck and keep me posted, hope it's just the strut it self.

My rav4 takes bumps hard, can changing tires help with this?

changing tires will help some but if your tread isnt worn enough to justify the cost wouldnt be worth it. depending on your mileage it may be time for shocks/struts. 50,000 is a good time to start checking into shocks.

you can test shocks by doing the following:

the easiest test i know is to push down on front (or rear) of the car, keep pushing until you get it bouncing then let go. if the car has good shocks it will bounce only once after you let go. look under the car at the shocks, if there is oil leaking from the shocks, they are bad.

Need to replace rear suspension for 90 senra

Yes! If ya dont have a good spring compressor, and ya take the center nut out.. It'll kill you as the spring/shock separates.. My advice is to watch one being done before attempting.. Thanks

Changing rear shocks on a 1990 jag

No. But if can't get it on a lift or high enough to work under comfortably..it will be very awkward. The calipers get in the way when you are removing the springs and shocks as a unit. You can move the part and get it out and down, but you will need to remove the rear wheels and let the rear springs hang down.
Make sure you have a good spring compressor to get the old springs off....in most cases it is the springs that go soft and not the shocks...
Don't assume that it is the shocks unless you know for sure they are bad.

ONE REAR AIR SHOCK IS LEAKING IN MY 2002 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE

you could replace the one shock but do you know why it is leaking oil? Typically unless there was something traumatic to happen to one of the rear shocks, then if one is going you can almost be the other one will go soon. I ended up having too many problems with the air ride suspensions. If you haven't yet, look into conversion kits as something to consider for down the road if nothing else. www.strutmasters.com has a great kit that is made in America and comes with a lifetime warranty. They have a good reputation and track record and can help you save some money and find the permanent solution if anything else goes wrong.
