Fuel injection? 1990 Topaz-4 cylinder

Gasoline consumption decreased from 31 mpg to 24 mpg and stayed there. Car had been out of use for about six months. Then, running a bit rough on start up, before smoothing out. Then, when sitting idling, starts to run rough, may die. Then from an idle, when press down on throttle pedal, sometimes dies.
Inside of throttle body and intake manifold, quite damp with gas, when inspected.

2009 Dodge Journey 4 cylinder My mpg is at 10 mpg! It has done 150,000 miles.

Question edited into written English.
Question moved to model category.

Wow, that's bad!
Someone stealing your fuel? Hole in the fuel tank or lines?

The stats say
Regular Gasoline EPA Fuel Economy 17 MPG combined city/highway (15 City, 22 Highway) 5.9 gal/100mi 359 miles Total Range https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=25378

You need am auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to check long term and short term fuel trim, check MAF and o2 efficiency. With that consumption your spark plugs should be black, if the engine management system is dumping fuel. The other possibility is that you are 'lead footed', racing from traffic lights, revving through gears, using 'kick down' all the time, and stomping on the brakes at the last minute. That would easily shave 50% off normal consumption.

For the passenger heating, that one is easy, blend doors stuck, blend door actuator failed, or a linkage has come off. Videos show how to get there and check.

When i first got the car (used) the screen showed 27.5 mpg..... it keeps decreasing everytime i step into the car, even after ive filled the tank. when i press info it shows two arrows. can i increase or...

no, the arrows simply mean that you can scroll through additional menus. the MPG is simply a calculation done by the computer monitoring fuel consumption compared to miles driven. if the numbers are going down since you acquired the car, there a several possibilities. your driving style - if you are a little heavier on the gas, brake a little harder, the numbers go down. if the previous owner drove primarily on the highway, and you are more towards the city driving pattern, the number will go down. depending on the mileage on the vehicle, it could also be do for some maintenance work, ie spark plugs, air filter, intake / injection cleaning. good luck!

PERFORMANCE CHIP FOR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE

Have actually done some research on those and found that the horsepower increase advertised is in the higher RPM band (where in essence it is unusable). As far as fuel consumption goes, there is always a "trade-off" when it comes to that. On earlier carbureted engines it was fairly easy to squeeze more mpg from what you drive. Today's injection systems are very precise, and more difficult to get much more than factory standards from them. Three items you can do to get better mpg are: Keep the air filter clean (vacuum and shake out once a month), Use a good quality synthetic oil in the engine. Make sure your ignition system is in good condition and not arcing anywhere. Keep wires clean and plugs properly gaped (if you can't light the fire, you waste the fuel in that cylinder).
A new problem we all face is the introduction of alcohol into our fuel...It does not produce the same btu's of heat when it burns...heat is power.
the more alcohol in a system the lower the mpg is because it takes two times the quantity of alcohol to make the same amount of power.
One other forgotten item is the fuel injectors. Even the most well filtered fuel carries a certain amount of abrasive grit with it. As it passes through the nozzles it enlarges them. This alters the amount of fuel going into the engine. That, coupled with even a small amount of gunk (they all get that to some degree) alters the spray pattern and decreases efficiency.
Back to the "chip" ...I haven't seen anything there that would in any way justify the cost there. If $ were no object, I'd be more likely to put a turbo-charger on the engine and start looking at add-on overdrive units.
That's where you can get good solid results! (but expensive)

Did you fix this yet?
Are you getting fuel to the plugs?
Try starting the car, then remove one of the plugs. Check for the smell of fresh gasoline. You could also try smelling the exhaust to see if there is a fresh unburt gasoline smell.
If your getting fuel, then the fuel system is probably not the problem.
Are you getting spark to the plugs?
After you replaced the Distributor, did you adjust the timing?

Gas Consumption

If you have the RT with the 5.7 hemi as stated I do not beleive you ever got 27 to 29 miles to the gallon. the best that car will do is 24 - 25 miles to the gallon and that is on a pefectly flat and straight road at about 60 miles an hour. As fas as the MDS the best way to tell (if you can't feel it change) is to use a tool such as the dashawk that monitors the engine stats. I disabled the MDS for several reasons and really so little to no change in gas milage. I do not beleive the MDS helps as much as people would like to think. I have added a lot of mods to my hemi, but still think that 14 - 18 mpg under normal driveing is good for this car
