Have a 02 galant. When I start it after it has sat for a while, the engine runs fast for about 60-90 seconds. Once it idles to normal, I then notice a hesitation when I try to accelerate. Is this a tune up problem?

This is normal if the fast idle on cold start drops to a lower rpm after 60 seconds or so or once sufficient engine temperature has been reached.

Idle air control motor. Clean it or replace it.

High idle on start is normal, so no worries there

Its a hot start issue.

Can be related to low fuel pressure or problem with crank sensor.

Also it can be weak battery or starter.

But possibilities are to be inspected to confirm what exactly it is.------

This is normal idle control strategy, it races up to keep the engine from stalling out until it stabilizes, if it doesn't drop back to normal idle speed of about 600 RPM after a few seconds (longer on cold start up) then you need to have the electronics tested to see what the problem is.

I have an 02 Galant LS...I had the same problem with shifting and seemed to idle too fast. I changed out the idle air control motor located around the throttle body area. The car ran great after that. The problem is the IAC is a small plastic motor that will cost around 300 to 400 dollars. If that is the problem then buying a new rather than a used one is recommended.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

Keep an eye on the coolant level, you might have a cracked engine block!!!
Watch for steam around Motor Block once the engine gets warm.

You changed everything but the temperature sending unit/sensor. That's what is your problem as far as no proper cold start. When first started and cold, the sensor tells the computer to place the engine into cold start mode, engine starts and runs because it's at a bit higher idle and getting a bit more fuel. When warmed up, the sensor, if good, will tell the computer to place the engine into normal run mode now. Have the sensor tested first. If good, the engine is not going into a higher idle and is still getting the fuel but not using it fast enough because it's flooding. Hence the fuel smell. That's the fast idle solenoid on the EFI for this and the A/C high idle when it's running.

The first sensor closest to the exhaust manifold is for the air to fuel ratio. The second one if it has one will be further downstream and checks to see if exhaust is plugged.
