If you are very lucky you can coat the endpiece of key you have with superglue and then attach it to the bit left in the lock,(give the job to a woman as they are better at it than us males, really)if you dont fancy that try eyebrow tweezers, the long pointy ones,(this job i gave to my wife and she had it out in no time.....)otherwise its a full lock, out job.

The one time I had this problem I had to remove the ignition then dis assemble it to get the key out. Be very careful when you do this. If you lose a spring or pin in the tumbler your keys won't work.

Key broke I off in the ignition of my 99 mercury tracer how do I manually unlock steering column?

You can't There is a pin that engages to lock the steering column that is activated by the turn of the cylinder...You must remove the steering wheel ( a big task considering you have airbags) to disengage the locking mechanism and replace the cylinder...You are best to get a locksmith that deals with automobiles.. They have tools that can extract a broken key...It is far better than having the steering wheel and locking mechanism removed. (It is not cheap!()

How do I switch my broken ignition in my car to a flip switch ignition

Why don't you just buy a new ignition switch and put it back together the way it was originally designed instead of "rigging" something that will probably end up burning your car to the ground?

The entire switch, tumbler and mounting bracket assembly is available from AutoZone. 1997 Mercury Tracer Ignition Switch

What type of oil should i use for a 96 mercury tracer

10/40. Full synthetic. I prefer Valvoline, all major brands have solid product though. Don't like the generic brands. Yeah is cost a few extra for the synthetic, but worth it. Change the filter. With higher mileage vehicles I also like to use a bottle of Lucas Oil treatment as well.
