Hi guys,
my check engine, VSC and TRAC lights came on...again. Transmission rides rough, will not go into reverse and has very low power in drive. This morning I had to put the car in a lower gear to make it to work. This same problem occurred about a year ago and had to replace a sensor. My Lexus is a RX 300. 2002 with about 87,000 miles. Could this be another sensor or is transmission going bad?

I have a 2001 RX 300 and mine has done the same thing. The first time it happened the dealer had me bring it in. It was under warranty, and they replaced something, which I can't remember. Then it happened a year or so ago, and the service rep at the dealership told me that her car does the same thing, and I should just let it reboot itself in a day or so. It did it two days ago driving back from a long trip. The service rep said to bring it in because she didn't know what was going on (I think she was new).
It's now resolved itself again. It must be a fluke with the model, but I don't worry about it.
I had same problem with my rx 300 2002 model, where the VSC and TRAC lights came on and after some time my gear box went bad and after replacing it, the VSC and TRAC lights came on again and the car does not get to the last gear where it need rest, the overdrive doesn't engage' it burns out my fuel too quickly, please i need a better solution because i am getting fed upI had same problem with my rx 300 2002 model, where the VSC and TRAC lights came on and after some time my gear box went bad and after replacing it, the VSC and TRAC lights came on again and the car does not get to the last gear where it need rest, the overdrive doesn't engage' it burns out my fuel too quickly, please i need a better solution because i am getting fed up

Hello, these lights being on indicate a fault that affect both vehicle stability control and engine performance. In some cases, it could be a transmission related concern, but not in all.
However this can be very helpful
Make sure you are completely stopped. Put the car in park if you can. Press and hold the VSC button for a few seconds. The TRAC OFF and VSC OFF indicator light will come on. Both systems are now off. Press the VSC button again. Both lights will turn off and the systems are now reengaged.
You can also check this out if you are having any problems with your smart key
The VSC and trac will shut off with a P0500 or P0705 code, so diagnose those first. You left out year and engine, so we can't look up most common failures.
You could have a bad coil pack or a bad fuel injector. swap out the coil packs from the misfiring cylinders and put them in the cylinders that are known to be firing correctly to narrow it down to determine if it is the coil pack first. When is the last time you changed the spark plugs? Pull them out of the misfiring cylinders to check the condition of the plugs.
Sounds to me like someone has perhaps knocked the ABS sensor while working on the brakes. The ECU in these cars interlinks various stability and braking components. Go back to the service center and ask them to put a code reader on the car and get a read out. It may only require that they reset the fault codes, but do not delay. On some Lexus vehicles these lights will also come on when the battery has been disconnected and there will be a reset for the programs, but the TRAC off light has never come on on my 2001 when doing brakes or battery swap. nice find an 02 with 75,000. My 2001 is over 160
The VSC warning light, Trac Off and check engine is probably an easy fix. If you look under the air filter/cleaner box there is probably a rubber hose that has been disconnected from a steel line. This is common if you have had the oil changed recently, the tech will check the ail filter and doesn't realize the hose has been disconnected.
It comes on when the sensor send a signal that the vehicle is not stable on the ground.....check the wheel balancing and alignment and the air pressure of your tires too.
Basically, stop driving it until you can get the transmission serviced.
If you can safely jack up the vehicle and support it so it cannot fall on you, you can possible save some money by checking all the electrical connections to the transmission. Sometimes the problem is a loose or bad connection. If that does not work, your safest bet is to bring it to a certified mechanic, especially one who specializes in Lexus.
