Check with Autozone and discuss your problem. They know what they are talking about and have always come up with the right parts or belts for me. I used to be a mechanic in my youth and I never go anywhere else.........
My sincere apologies for the delayed response. I am personally going back to answer your unanswered questions. I do not know if you still need this information, but I am going ahead and answering it anyway. You may want to Print the Diagrams for future use.
Sort of, look at the belt closely before you remove it to make sure the belt is not looped through the motor mount. On some makes there is a motor mount that is attached to the sidewall of the vehicle and this mount must be removed to remove and reinstall the belt, otherwise, yes it is that simple. Make sure you know how the belt goes back on. There should be a diagram under the hood for the belt routing. Or you can grab a sheet of paper and draw it yourself. If you do attempt to change it and the motor mount must be removed, you have to support the engine weight with a jack before removing the mount. Be careful and please let me know if this was helpful.
Can you post what engine you have in this vehicle. It will help ensure that the correct diagram be posted.
If you do not know, you can usually go to the local auto parts store and they can print one out for you or they will have a Haynes type manual that would have that information in it.
There is a belt diagram on the emission sticker under the hood, if it is not there I suggest you get an Escort repair manual. I have searched the Web and am unable to come up with qa diagram of the belt.
