2001 Monte carlo...ignition will not turn from "OFF" position.(like wrong key)have had no issues with key in past and have tried spare key already

Is the theft light on the dash lit ? If so turn the key onto the run position till the theft light goes out, about 10min. Turn key off for a few min. then start , hope that helps. If not have to have it checked for codes in the (BCM) body control module or the (PCM) powertrain control module !

leave the key in the on position for 10 min and then shut it off this will get the security light off

Reset oil change light. some GM cars and trucks switch on ignition, do not start engine press gas peddle to the floor then release and switch ignition off. This procedure is in the owners manual.

most likely ur ignition key cylinder is failing have get new from dealer coded to ur vin

WHERE YOUR SHIFTER IS YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT APART ..MAYBE THE RUBBER BOOT IS IT THE WAY,OR THE SHIFT LOCK SELINOID WHENT BAD

disconnect battey from vehicle give computer time to reset itself then make sure you properly put cable back on battery

The SECURITY light is a common problem on GM cars. The key is not just a key, it also communicates with the ignition/lock cylinder, and then to the TDM (theft deterrent module) also known as the computer. When these parts dont communcate properly, the car thinks its being stolen and turns off the starter. The hard part is finding out which part is failing. Mechanics can use this to their advantage and change everything, running up a large bill. I have found that bypassing the system is the most cost effective method and you also never have to worry about the problem EVER again. Ive bypassed dozens of GM vehicles, and never had any issues after that. Here is a link that explains the problem and offers some solutions.

would suspect that the key is worn out.have a new one made. also the sterring wheel could be in a bind Try holding the steering wheel hard to slack position and maybe key will turn

If you're not doing anything else but turning the ignition switch back and forth, I would say that the ignition switch is a definite suspect.

Be sure its all the way in park or try neutral.Its possible that security system does not recognize the key. Is security light flashing or on steady? Shut all doors and windows,trunk,hood, turn off all accessory's,roll down drivers window, turn key off and remove for at least 1 minute, insert key into ignition, try to start leaving key to run position for 20 minutes, turn key to off,wait 15 seconds, try to start again leaving key to run, wait 20 minutes, turn key off,wait 15 seconds, try to start, This should relearn key code. It may relearn after 1 learn cycle and start if system is ok. Hope this helps and that the weather is dry and warm for this procedure!.. i think this may solve ur problem..
