The fuel gauge is not working as the needle is hanging down almost vertically way past E. It was working fine until the dealer did the following all in one day: 1) did the passenger airbag harness recall @ nc 2) replaced both radiator cooling fan motors -- warranty 3) did transmission & diff service -- nc 4) did checkout & diagnose as to why drivers seat wouldn't move -- nc 5) replaced thermostat & bled cooling system -- charged 6) replaced drive belts -- charged 7) replaced compression rod bushings -- charged After repairs were completed and as I was driving home I noticed that the fuel gauge was dead -- obviously not receiving any voltage. The dealer says that nothing they could have done could have caused the fuel gauge to quit working. I am not accepting that it is purely coincidental that it stopped working after they did all the above repairs. I think that that their tech' accidentally damaged or unplugged the wire that sends the signal to the gauge. Can anyone please give me some advice as how to refute dealer's claim that the non-functioning fuel gauge is just a coincident and/or how I can check out the cause. Removing the dash & replacing the gauge will be expensive,

First, go under the car and make sure that the sending wire from the tank is connected (It will be on top of the tank, look for it going up to the top, and jiggle any wires. If they come loose, bad sign.) Then, go check to see if any fuses are out/blown. You never know. Finally, take it in, and ask them to look at the dash. Make it certain that you will be standing behind them, watching to make sure it wasn't their fault.

Reactman I thank you very much for your advice. Are you in agreement with me that it very unlikely that this is not a coincidence? Considering the amount of work they did I'm thinking that it is very likely that it happened while they were doing the work.

I am a firm disbeliever in coincidence, usually when something dies after I have worked with it, I've got to stand up and say, "Yes, it's my fault!" Someone can't just shirk off this kind of problem. And I'm sorry it took such a long time to reply, My own truck was having problems, and have been working towards a new(er) one, at a fervent rate.

Town and Country Van running out of gas and guage says half a tank what could be the problem?

If your fuel gauge is showing you in accurate readings this is normal to all vehicles that are not used to fill-up gas full regularly but sometimes the cause of the inacuracy is due to faulty float valve in the gas tank you need to replace it

Engine stalling due to too much fuel. Fuel in crankcase.

sounds like your float in the carb is stuck or the needle valve is bad. remove the bowl and push the float up to level. this should stop the fuel flow. be aware that only slight pressure should be needed.if it does not ck the needle valve. also mak sure you float is not damaged.

There was a recall on some of these dual tank valves. Call a dealer with your VIN number and ask if yours is involved.
