I have removed the bolts and straps suporting the gas tank, and had expected it to slide down out of it's place. It seems securely STUCK to the bottom of the body, with no visable bolts or fasteners to remove. Do I use a pry bar to unstick to rubber cushion to drop it?

It possibly has tar soundproofing between the underside of the trunk (bed) and the tank could be stuck securely stuck to it. Yes I would us something to gently pry and it should break loose.

Can someone tell me how to remove the fuel tank of my 2002 Subaru Forester

remove battery terminals. empty or drain out all the gas you can. take loose the filler neck from the tank or fuel filler door. Remove or take loose all fuel lines and electrical connectors. Place a jack under the tank with something soft as to not scratch/dent/ or puncture the tank, and jack it up to hold tank in place as you remove the bolts holding the tank straps in place. with the tank straps loose and placed out of the way, gently lower tank to ground and remove from vehicle. Tank may have to slide out over axles if its mounted over them.

I have a 2000 Blazer, has a few bumps and bruises but thats just character. Anyways I love the thing. i just read the last coment about the spark plugs, that helps also i am a do it your selfer and i have...

well the best way i found is to first siffen the gas out those tanks are heavy without gas and akward to handle, what i would do is place a jack with a board on it to help stablelize it and help with the lifting then i would loosen the bolt straps nearly all the way so i could get to the lines and remove them be sure to use 2 wrenches do not twist the lines they will break and or crack once thats done remove the electric clipted on wires and ground wire if its bolted to tank then remove the large fill up tube then finish removing the strap bolts while hanging on to the tank once bolts are out begin lower the jack holding on at the same time till your all the way down then gently slide tank off of jack , climb out from under vehicle then pull the tank out to replace sending unit then do it all in reverse.

REPLACING FUEL TANK STRAPS

I know it can be a bear if the bolts and pins are rusted. Unless the new straps are OEM, some after market straps don't fit quite as well and you need Godzilla strength to manover them into place to get them pinned and bolted back up.
You shouldn't have to drop the tank as long as you do the straps one at a time. Get a floor jack, transmission jack or even a motorcycle jack and place wood under the gas tank and do one strap at a time. I used a second jack to help push the strap in place so I could push it into place on a 97 Dakota. Good luck and sometimes it goes smooth but, some times it makes a preacher say things they wouldn't say in church. :)

The easiest way to remove a fuel pump off a camaro

Hello,

Drive the rear of the Camaro onto a set of ramps and secure the parking brake. If the Camaro no longer runs due to the fuel pump, place the rear end of the vehicle onto jack stands.

Use a socket and ratchet to disconnect the negative battery cable from the negative battery terminal. This removes power from the electric fuel pump.

Place a jack under the gas tank and raise the jack so it butts up against the tank. This applies pressure to the tank and prevents it from falling while you remove the retaining bolts for the tank straps.

Use a socket and ratchet to remove the retaining bolt from each of the two straps located closest to the rear of the vehicle. These are the rear strap bolts. Pull the straps down.

Lower the jack to lower the tank from the vehicle. Because you left the front of the straps attached, the tank rests at an angle under the vehicle. This prevents the need to unhook all of the hoses connected to the tank.

Place the cam tool (J-24187) onto the retaining cam on the top of the tank and turn it a quarter turn counterclockwise. Take the sending unit cam off the tank.

Disconnect the fuel pump from the sending unit cam and plug the new pump into the sending unit.

Place the fuel sending unit cam onto the tank and turn it clockwise a quarter turn with the specialized tool.

Use the straps, bolts, socket and ratchet to jack the tank back up under the Camaro and secure it.

Use the socket and ratchet to reconnect the negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal.

I hope the above helps.

Good luck.

How do I replace the Fuel Pump?

The fuel pump is located in your fuel tank...you have to drop your fuel tank to replace it...before you do so you will have to sifion [sp] most of the gas out as gas is heavy...when you get out all you can leave the gas cap off and remove the bolts holding the filler neck in place...Then jack up vehicle and place on jack stands....Remove battery ground cable,go under and remove sheild covering fuel tank, while there remove the ground strap attached to the filler neck...Once the cover is off this will expose the 2 tank holding straps.....at this point you will need a jack or holding and lowering devise to support the gas tank..... make sure it is supported well before you loosen the strap bolts!!!! disconnect the EVap hose from canister it runs to tank then remove the strap bolts ...move them aside and lower the tank enough to expose the top where the fuel lines are disconnect them and the electrical connector, ground ...then lower gas tank slowly checking nothing is still hooked to it ...After the tank is down remove it from under vehicle and use a BRASS punch or piece of wood not a regular metal punch to remove the pump retaining ring ...once ring is removed CAREFULLY remove the pump from the tank.....replace pump and new strainer... Then Carefully put the pump back in the tank...if needed replace the ring seal before you place the pump back in...tighten up the retaining ring ....take back to car and put on supporting devise and lift just high enough to reattach all your connectors...then jack up the rest off the way attach holdings straps ,cover, ground ******** filler neck, filler neck bolts, battery cable install gas cap and start hopfully

Gas tank is loose

On one end of each strap there should be a bolt. It's possible that there was an "insulator" between the strap and tank that deteriorated and fell out. It's not essential that it be replaced but likely you can tighten those bolts to take up some of the slack. Don't crank down too tight or you may distort tank.
