The trunk latch as a sensor that signals the control modulle the trunk is closed, check the wiring to the sensor, if it is ok replace the truck ajar sensor

ok, let's assume you got it open. Closely inspect the bundle of wires that go into the trunk lid. You will find a small section that will flex when the lid goes from closed to full open. That's the spot to look VERY closely at the flex point. You may find a wire that looses contact due to mechanical agitation while previous openings and closings of the trunk ( a million times).
Fix the wire and spray the trunk latch first with penetrating lube then with pure lube. WITH THE LID STILL OPEN check the remote and the dash button and ensure rhe actions actuate the trunk lid solenoid at the latch.
The trunk lid is not closed tightly enough....or the trunk lid switch is not properly adjusted.
Try closing the trunk lid a little harder once to see if it works,,,or have someone push down hard there while you watch the panel light.
You should have a switch in the trunk area or on the trunk latch it makes contact to ground to turn on the light in trunk if you disconnect the switch should take care of it temporarily.
For your first problem I would suggest taking a test light and double checking the fuses I would always recommend doing that because I have worked on numerous vehicles where the fuses were pulled and not replaced firmly and not making contact (just a good thorough habit to get into) if your fuse has power check for power on either your dome or personal reading lamps they are both on the same circuit. If you have power then replace the bulbs if not you will need to check for power between the lights to your illuminator/interior light switch this should isolate if you have a defective circuit ie:shorted,cut,loose wire connection which would need to be repaired. Your second problem the trunk open indicator showing it is still on when closed: open your trunk with the key on have someone push the trunk lid jamb switch several times to check for proper function if it still shows to be opened then it will need to be replaced if it goes on and off as it should then you should check your weather strip/struts and all components & function of trunk to ensure it is properly closing and not out of proper alignment. Sounds like the sensor switch is bad - this is the switch that is pressed down when the trunk/boot is closed. If it's bad, it may not allow the light to turn on when you open the lid, and it also probably isn't telling the dash light that it's closed when it is, which would explain why your indicator light is on. Check to see if it has damaged wires on it, and if not, I'd replace it.
