In the Nissan Quest, 1993-02, the cam sensor is in the distributor and replacing the distributor fixes it. Usually the engine runs when cold, then fails when it is hot. Not usre where it is on the 2007 Quest.
Rich Porter sells reman distributors on ebay for $200.
We talk about it on our website for Villager Quest owners.
most likely timing belt failed.this turns camshafts which in turn rotate distributor.fotunately for you ford insisted nissan make this a non interference engine during their joint venture with mercury villager.so no internal damage should have occurred.im guessing about 700.00 to replace timing belt, water pump and drive belts.
Pretty sure this engine has a distributor. Could be a bad ignition wire, cap or rotor. Pick up all 3 and change em out. Pretty cheap fix. Check ebay and put in "nissan quest ignition". Or take a trip to autozone carquest etc... If your engine had coil packs and not a distributor, it is usually a bad pack.
Good luck
it's usually the cam sensor in the distributor. Are you sure it was changed? 99 was famous for bad distributor bearing thrwoing brown dust around on the optical sensors in the distributor.
Have you cleaned the MAF sensor with carb cleaner? It will amke it run lean and hesitate. 1/2 hour repair. Spray MAF wires. 2 screws in air intake tube to expose the 2 wires. Do not touch. Glass coated.
99's were noted for bad bearing in distributor throwing brown dust on the optical sensor in distributor. Replace distributor. $200 on ebay for reman. Used - get only 99-02 distributor.
This is late but may be useful for info purposes. The 1999 Nissan Quest carries a distributor and spark plug wires. Many owners complain having to go through numerous distributors. I went through 2 in one year with only 68K miles.
