The low pressure side of the AC unit is the big aluminum pipe coming out of the compressor, it usually runs to the fire wall and goes into the car, But before it does, you will find a little valve, with Green cap and the letter L on it. It is the filler fitting and the only place that the hose will connect. Get one of those bottles from walmart, under $20, has oil and sealer in it, pump it up to 35 lbs, you should be all set, check it in about a week and fill it again, Mine was a junk yard compressor, had no ac for years, put in the comp, pumped it up with less than one 18 oz bottle, been running great all summer. And it is hot down here in FL. Last summer we had none. Yikes.!!! Hope this helps.

Is there any easy and cheap way to find out if the compressor is bad; it won't blow cold nor will it let us add any r14

I'm assuming you mean R134 if it is a 2000 model car.
Not sure what you are saying the problem is. The compressor has to run to add freon if it is low. Normally you jumper the low pressure switch to make it run while you add freon.
Is the compressor running ? And if so, what are the high and low gauge readings ?

Thank you. where do we add the transmission

If yo can locate the transmission dip stick[drivers side] the fluid goes in through the same hole as the dipstick was in,use a small flexible funnel.
