Push the lock button on your key fob for three seconds, until the lights on your dashboard blink. Your key has been reprogrammed, and your alarm and computer have been reset. Turn your Kia off, remove the jumper wires and close the hood.
Anti-theft system, are you using the key you have always used. A Valet key only open doors. If the anti-theft light comes on and you can still drive it, you need an auto-electrician or a new vehicle.

According to RepairPal: "the car wont start due to anti-theft system, it will say wait three minutes then start, but repeat this process 4-5 times - Visitor"
They say there are 75 reports of: "Problems with the anti-theft systems using the raised-chip key can prevent the car from starting. The wires in the steering column to the ignition lock cylinder tend to break. The the key and ignition lock cylinder must be replaced to correct this condition."
Hi Carol , do you mean PATS passive antitheft system ? Locked up your car ,do you mean it won't crank over an start ?
The passive anti-theft system uses radio frequency identification technology to deter a driveaway theft. Passive means that it does not require any activity from the user.
During each vehicle start sequence, the ignition key identification code is requested by the vehicle protection anti-theft electronics.
If the key's ID code has been programmed into the system, the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) is signaled to enable the vehicle to start.
If the key's ID code is not programmed into the system, or if no encoded key is detected, then the powertrain control module is signaled to disable the vehicle.
The passive anti-theft system communicates the state of the security system to the powertrain control module via the J-1850 communications network data link connector (DLC). The powertrain control modulebased on the communications from the passive anti-theft system, will determine if the vehicle's engine is enabled to start.
The passive anti-theft system differs from the active anti-theft alarm system in that the passive anti-theft system enables/disables the vehicle from starting and only operates with the ignition switch in RUN/START position. The active anti-theft alarm system has perimeter protection capabilities and operates only with the ignition switch OFF. Refer to Section 13-11A for active anti-theft alarm system information.
Vehicle Disabling
The passive anti-theft system will be activated and disable the vehicle from starting if any of the following conditions exist:
damaged encoded key
unprogrammed key
non-encoded key (key has no electronics)
wiring concern
transceiver concern
Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) control module concern
Possible anti theft but I think that you have a blown fuse go to ford owners manual.com and register for free then download the manual then go to roadside emergencies and your fuse box diagrams and values for ignition and fuel pump as well as others //// when you put the key in does the pats system light start to rapidly flash or does it go out while cranking if rapidly the anti theft is activated or somehow your key was erased check PCM fuse ignition fuel pump coils injectors
This is the problem due to your anti theft alarm system. You have not mentioned which brand of anti-theft alarm system you have? Anyhow, most of the systems have a reset switch inside the kit, open the kit and on the main board, u will find the reset button, press that and hold for 5 sec, the system will be reset. Otherwise, there are 2 or 3 fuses with the wiring of kit, remove those fuses and ur engine will wake up but the anti-theft system wont work then, hope this will solve the problem
yes method still works for my car. also a lock smith in your area can also do this for you. Its much more less expensive than replacing the ignition cylinder.
