If you can locate the starter, tap on it with a hammer a couple of times then try to start up.It may take several tries but it should work eventually because a starter doesn't usually fail 100%.If you can't locate it call around, someone will tell you for free because they want your business.Dealer,shops,whatever.Good luck!

Testimonial: "very good advice......at first I accidentally hit only 1 thumbs (up) I didn't know that was a low rating...I wanted to give icantry a high rating!!"

Now I would say starter relay, starter solenoid.Locate the starter relay. That's what click, clicks when the battery is dead.Since your battery is fine and no clicking,it's that relay.Good luck!

I thought your answer was very helpful!!! I gave u a thumbs up.....maybe I was supposed to give u 4 thumbs up......I appreciate your help!!! Thanks so much.....I was thinking maybe it was the ignition switch! Sunday I will get a friend to tap on the starter.....thanks again. What are the signs if your ignition switch is bad? The dash lights up...when u try to start the lights don't go dim....no noise at all...no clicking or anything ....any more suggestions??? Thanks for all your help!!!! Dianne

1 is the worst rating:( I don't know if you can change it.If you want to you can try I guess. If it were the ignition switch, your key probably just would not turn at all,or be very difficult to.When you try the starter with the hammer it normally takes 6,7,I would say 10 tries at the most.Seeing how there is no clicking,it's probably the relay, however,it is not located on the starter.Like I said though, call around because someone will tell you free over the phone where it is.Location varies. The most common seems to be under the hood on top where it is very accessible.Mine is in the corner by the firewall. It's probably no biger than 2" x 2" with a plug hooked up.It should be a quick fix.Good luck.It is not necessary to buy it from a Saturn dealer too.

1993 Saturn SC2 will not crank, but tries to turn over?

You are saying the engine cranks but does not start, right ?
Does it sound like it has compression ? If not could be a broken timing belt.

What is an engine control module on a 1993 saturn sl

Can you clarify a little better . does not crank ??? As when you turn the key to the start position nothing happens ? The starter does not engage an spin the engine ? Control module has nothing to do with that . Park neutral safety switch maybe, ignition switch possibly, main B+ cable from battery to the starter solenoid. If you would look at a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in the starting system on your vehicle an testing the starter electrical circuit's . Doing voltage drop testing on the starter main B+ circuit .. Starter Voltage Drop Don't keep changing out the starter , that is not it. Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model and engine size. Under system click engine ,then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link. Now look at the wiring diagram ,DO YOU SEE A CONTROL MODULE any where on that diagram ??????
You should learn how to diagnose be trying to fix cars.

My saturn SL2 died at idle...and now wont crank over...there is juice to the starter and the battery has 13.1 volts

Any starter clicking noises? Try moving the shifter to "N" neutral and try starting the car.
IF that is not successful, find the starter relay in the under-hood fuse box, replace the relay with an identical relay from the under-hood fuse box and see if it will start. This will then eliminate the park/neutral start switch and the starter relay.
Let me know what you find.

I have 1998 saturn sl 2 car starts after 5 or 6

Spray ether into the air intake and see if it still takes 5 or 6 cranks...if it starts immediately, it is fuel related, perhaps fuel presure regulator is bad. If the ether doesn't change anything...it is most likely a cam sensor...good luck!
