It might have an Air Lock, Have you bled the system after you have done the repair work? Try flushing the system and bleed it after you fill it up. Failing that the cylinder Head gasket might be on the way out if it has overheated and burned the head.

My Chevy Equinox 2005 is over heating.

The unlikely one is the head gasket. Do you have water in your oil, do you have mayonnaise on the oil filler cap?

If the area under the thermostat is dry, the most likely issue is water pump failure. Empty the system, backflush the radiator and heater hoses with a garden hose. Replace the water pump and thermostat. Fill the system with coolant, turn the engine on, heater to maximum temperature and keep topping up the radiator until the coolant is hot and the thermostat opens. Squeezing the top and bottom radiator hoses also helps to get air out. Turn off the engine and top up the radiator one last time. Put the cap on and then top up the expansion reservoir.

One thing often overlooked with overheating issues, make sure the radiator fan is working properly.

Replaced thermostat water pump overheating seems to have no backflow thru top radaitor hose

The engine gets cool water from the lower hose. And dumps hot water back in the radiator thru the top hose.

The water won't come your the engine until the thermostat reaches the appropriate temp.

After the thermostat opens and the water level drops in the radiator you can fill the radiator.

Water not circulating radiator engine running hot

Hi ytabaja97,
Sounds like the thermostat on the hose that goes to the top of the motor is stuck closed, or does not open completely. Try replacing the thermostat. Make sure it is correct for your Jeep, and that the seals on the thermostat housing are replaced correctly.
Hope you have no more overheating problems.

COULD BE THERMOSTAT IF TOP RADIATOR HOSE IS NOT HOT AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE GOING TO WATER PUMP IS HOT THE THERMOSTAT STICKING PARTIALLY CLOSE.IF TOP HOSE IS HOT THE RADIATOR,ENGINE BLOCK HEATER CORE NEED FLUSHING OUT.IF WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP, FAULTY WATER PUMP WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.REPLACE RADIATOR CAP MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50 / 50 MIX SOLUTION ANTIFREEZE AND WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM. IF ALL LOOKS GOOD CHECK ENGINE OIL ON DIP STICK, IF OIL IN DIP STICK LOOK LIKE MILKSHAKE YOU HAVE BLOWED HEAD GASKET THAT WILL CAUSE ENGINE OVERHEATING WHILE DRIVING CAR IN SHORT DISTANCE AND ENGINE OVERHEATING.

Why does my cadillac 1998 deville keep overheating?

Overheating can be numerous things: Fans not working, water pump, thermostat, overflow cap, and the list keeps going. When the engine is running and heats ups, feel the heat of the top hose, if the hose isn't hot, the thermostat is most likely stuck open and needs replaced. If it is hot we know you have circulation. The cap on the expansion tank may be defective, if it can't hold the pressure of the water, it will release at the overflow cap if the cap is bad. Also check the coolant level.
