Each window has its own motor to raise and lower the window, so if the drivers side works it is still possible that the passenger side will not. When you press the switch to raise or lower the window, do you hear the motor? If you do the problem is most likely the lifting mechanism. You'll need to remove the interior door panel and make sure the window has not come off track and the mechanism functions properly. If it's damaged you can get a refurbished mechanism from any of several online stores for much less than a new unit from a dealer. Here's a hint when replacing the unit. To install the mechanism you'll need to have the window up. While it's up tape the window to the door frame to keep it in place untill you complete the installation. This will help tp keep the window aligned and in the window track.

OK, did you check the wireing harness going into the door. It is not uncommon that this will wear and possible break. If the break is small it will create added electrical resistance which will limit performance of the motor. Check the wireing with an Ohm meter. Resistance should be the same at both doors. I'm going to bet you'll find increased resistance on the passenger side.

  • jwbblaq Jul 10, 2010

Drivers side- Down wire(Br)- I did not hit switch meter set at dc50 ohm=12. When I hit switch no change.

Up wire(DB)- I did not hit switch- nothing. When I hit switch meter read ohm=12

Passenger side- Up wire(DB)- I did not hit switch- nothing. When I hit switch meter read ohm=12

Down wire(Br)- I did not hit switch- nothing. When I hit switch meter read ohm=12

I hope this kind of makes sense, I am not an electician as you can tell, the deal with the down wire on the drivers side is a little odd. Like I said the pigtail on the passenger side lights up on up and down. I swapped the up wire to the down side of the motor pushed up on switch and the window went down, so that down wire ( brown) is acting strange I took the motor out and hooked it up to drivers side pigtail and it worked fine.

    Thank You for any help

Hi,

The power window system consists of the following components:

• Driver door module (DDM)
• Passenger door module (PDM)
• Body control module (BCM)
• LR power window switch
• RR power window switch
• Window up and window down relays in each of the rear passenger window switches
• Window lockout switch
• Reversible power window motors in each of the doors (circuit breaker protected)
• LT DOOR CB 25A (System power for left rear window)
• RT DOOR CB 25A (System power for right rear window)

The power window system will operate anytime the retained accessory power (RAP) system is active or when the ignition switch is in the ACCY or ON position.

The DDM contains 4 power window switches which are integral components. Closing any of the normally open, rocker type switches provides the DDM with a request for power window operation. The switches for the 2 front windows have 3 positions Up, Down and Express Down, while the switches for the rear windows have only 2 positions, Up and Down. Each of these switches and their positions is a direct input into the DDM. Upon receiving a request for power window operation, the DDM, transmits a class 2 message indicating the switch and it's changed position.

The PDM contains a single power window switch that is an integral component. Closing of this normally open, rocker switch provides the PDM with a request for the front passenger power window operation. The switch for the front passenger window has 2 positions Up and Down. Each of these switch positions is a direct input to the PDM.

The 2 rear passenger doors have there own switches. Each of the switches contain a power window up and down relay. A switch activation alone can control the up and down functions of the rear windows. However the BCM, upon receiving a class 2 message from the DDM, can control the set of relays which will activate the rear window motors.

A permanent magnet motor operates each of the power side windows. Each motor raises or lowers the glass when the motor receives voltage. The direction the motor turns depends on the polarity of the supply voltage. The power window switches control the polarity of the supply voltage. A built-in circuit breaker protects each motor. The circuit breaker opens when the switch is depressed for a extended period of time under the following conditions:

• The window has an obstruction.
• The window is fully open or fully closed.

The circuit breaker will reset automatically as the circuit breaker cools, however 5-15 seconds may elapse before the circuit breaker resets.

The switch for the driver power window has 3 positions Up, Down and Express Down and its position is a direct input into the DDM. Upon receiving a request for power window operation (switch activation), the DDM supplies voltage to the power window motor left front up or down circuit and grounds the opposite and the power window motor runs to move the window up or down.

The switch for the front passenger power window has 2 positions Up and Down, and its position is a direct input into the PDM. Upon receiving a request for power window operation (switch activation), the PDM supplies voltage to the power window motor right front up or down circuit and grounds the opposite and the power window motor runs to drive the window up or down.

The front passenger power window can also be controlled from the power window master switch. The power window master switch for the front passenger power window has 3 positions Up, Down and Express Down and its position is a direct input into the DDM. Upon receiving a request for front passenger power window operation (switch activation), the DDM transmits a class 2 message indicating the changed switch position. When the PDM receives this message, the PDM supplies voltage to the power window motor right front up or down circuit and grounds the opposite and the power window motor runs to move the window up or down.

The passenger power window switches incorporate window up and down relays. The supply side of all the window up and down relays receive voltage through the battery voltage supply circuit and the LT DOOR or RT DOOR circuit breakers respectively. The normally closed contacts of each relay is connected to ground. The load side of each of the relays are connected to either side of the power window motor through the power window up and down circuits. The relay coil feed circuits are connected to the BCM through the power window lockout control circuit and the relay control circuits are connected to the power window switches and to the BCM.

If a rear power window switch is placed in the down position, the down relay would energize and allow battery voltage to the power window motor through the power window motor down circuit. Since the opposite side of the motor is connected to the normally closed contacts of the up relay to ground through the power window motor up circuit, the window moves down. If a rear power window switch is placed in the up position, the up relay would energize and allow battery voltage to the power window motor through the power window motor up circuit. Since the opposite side of the motor is connected to the normally closed contacts of the down relay to ground through the power window motor down circuit, the window moves up.

The rear passenger power windows can also be controlled from the power window master switch. The power window master switches for the rear passenger power windows have 2 positions Up and Down and its position is a direct input into the DDM. Upon receiving a request for rear passenger power window operation (switch activation), the DDM transmits a class 2 message indicating the changed switch position. When the BCM receives this message, the BCM can control the rear window up and down relays.

The express down function controls both the driver and front passenger power windows but only from the driver door power window master switch. When either the driver or front passenger window switch is momentarily depressed to the express down position, it is a direct input into the DDM. If the request was for the driver power window, the DDM supplies voltage to the power window down circuit continuously until the power window reaches the bottom of its travel. At this point, the DDM senses an over current situation on the power window down circuit and interrupts the voltage supply. If the request was for the front passenger power window, the DDM transmits a class 2 message indicating an express down function was requested. When the PDM receives this message, the PDM supplies voltage to the power window down circuit continuously until the power window reaches the bottom of its travel. At this point, the PDM senses an over current situation on the power window down circuit and interrupts the voltage supply.

The DDM contains a window lockout switch that is responsible for the disabling of all the passenger windows from the individual passenger window switches. When the window lockout switch is activated, the DDM transmits a class 2 message indicating that a window lockout request has been received. When the PDM receives this message, it will disable the power window motor up and down circuits. When the BCM receives this message, it will interrupt the up and down relay coil feed voltage for both rear doors. Once activated, the lockout feature will remain in effect until the ignition switch is cycled or the DDM receives another power window lockout switch activation.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Grounding problem with my power window motor on a 1997 chevy camero

Test the MASTER switch at the drivers side. It seems to be a "wiring problem with the Master switch. The master switch is the switch that controls ALL the cars windows.

The passenger window switch gets both power and ground from the master switch. You have replaced the passenger side switch and it still had the same result and if the wiring is good from the master switch to the passenger side switch, then the only thing left would be the power window master switch. Check all wiring of the Master switch. That's the only thing that's left to do.

Passenger window switch works but the drivers side switch does not

was regulator bad? did it work from drivers side switch before you did regulator repair?..if so passenger side switch wiring has issue and is not sending signal through it back to the drivers side master switches.. otherwise you need to pin test for power up power down on drivers side switch and repair that if issue going to the window on passenger side.. (possible pinched at door jam area common)

Passenger window wont roll down with either switch but motor is good and getting power

New switch for the passenger side. The drivers side switch may be wired through the passengers side switch witch will make it not work if the passengers side switch is bad. Just a thought. Hope this helps.

The motor on the passenger side is shorted and is now tripping the circuit breaker. Odds are, the back window motor is also bad. You have to take the panel off to check the motor. You can power it directly to verify it has failed.

I have a 2002 chevy silverado 1500 5.3 liter. The drivers side window works good up and down but the passengers side window does not go up or down with no sound either. I cant run the passengers side...

Check the fuse first then with the interior lights push the window button. If the light dim the window motor is bad, if nothing happens then there is a switch problem. I'm betting on the motor.

Power window switchs on 1996 gmc jimmy

Inspect or replace the window lock and unlock switch on the drivers door power window switch. There is a lock and unlock switch that will disable the switches to the other power window in the Jimmy. Check to make sure that switch is in the unlock position to have the other power window switch to work.
Thank you for suing fixya and good luck.

The passenger side window on my 2001 F150 will roll down but not up?

Might want to pull the door panel off and test direct to the power window motor, to know which way to go with the diagnoses.

Good directions for removing the door panel are available at Muth ( signal mirror mfgr ). www.kwmuth.com Obviously only follow the directions to the point of getting the door panel off, no need to remove the mirrors. Just enter your truck info, and on the products page are the directions in PDF format.

The power window has a pig tail on it, that goes to the switch ( this is what it looks like remvoed ).
721d619.jpg

You can apply DC power to the pigtail towards the motor, 1 direction is up reverse polarity and the window should go down.

If the motor works this way, next is to meter the lead from the switch ( the other side of the pigtail ). One direction will have + 12 DC V, then the switch the other should show -12 DC V. If not, it would be time to test both switches.

Post back what you find with the motor test as a comment, and we can go from there.

The drivers side window stoped working on my 2004 silverado the passenger side works fine

Try the fuse. The switch may be faulty so check by removing the inner door panel and connecting a 12v battery via two wires to the motor that winds the window up and down. If it goes up and down it's probably the switch which may just need a clean on the terminals.

Passenger Window Stuck all the way Down

Try switching the power window switch from the passenger side to the drivers side. Before you do that try with the switch on the up position, wiggle it from side to side. The contacts may be worn and by wiggling it may make contact. Other then that try to park it in side or garbage bag taped to keep rain out till you get it to the shop.
Hint, take it to a Auto window repair shop to replace the switch if it's bad or if the motor is bad. They have more experience to removing the door panels and removing the power window regulator (motor) if that needs to be replaced.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Driver window will roll down but the passenger and rear wont

The first thing that I would do is check for electricty at the motors them sel and work your way back.If there is elec. at the window motor it's self susspect a motor problem.Remove the motor to see if it spins (but it dosen't me its good it could be week)next check for binding in the window mecanism.
