2004 trailblazer truck surges and shuts off when AC is turned on. This is not an compressor or freon problem because with foot on padel ac system works and cools very well.

Needs to be charded with freon you can do yourself. Go to any auto zone store and pickup charging kit follow instructions and you should be good to go. If not bleed system and recharge.

A few things could be wrong here. 1. if your running low on anti-freeze and your engine is getting hot, the thermal switch on the AC compressor will shut it off until it cools down. 2. You could be low on freon. 3. Your compressor may be bad with leaks.

sounds like unproper ac evacuation before charging the freon to your ac system. do a proper evacuetion to the system check the ac compressor oil charge the proper freon & amount check the vehicle tag for the amount of freon under the wood close to the radiator

This noise is probably the AC compressor cycling on and off because the system is low on refrigerant. The reason it is low is that there is a leak, this needs to be repaired by an HVAC technician.

Is the compressor clutch getting any power? Are you sure you have not over-charged the system?

There is no reset button. Your AC system needs to be checked by an AC technician, you could have a leak or the pressure switch could be bad. Special tools and instruments are required to diagnose the system.

Sounds as if the A/C Compressor has issues with the clutch/shaft locking up.... the blow off you heard was probably the pressure relief valve allowing an over charge of freon escape the system....however if the A/C system has a compressor problem or a clog that condition will also happen....can you have someone put a set of high/low gauges on it just for safety sake to be sure it is not developing too high of a head pressure...that would be my recoomendation....if the compressor locks up the belt can be thrown off causing your vehicle to require a tow/repair on the spot.

It sounds like you are low on freon and the system needs to be recharged.If you are low on freon your ac system has a leak.

check to make sure the compressor is engaging, check the ac relay
