Subaru legacy homelink only works when car is running and doesn't work in the garage

I assume you mean the key has to be on which is true... but if you had to close the garage door when inside a running car then you would die so it is set up that way on purpose to not kill you...when you leave the garage door will close correct, and that is cuz it knows you will stay alive and that is how good technology is these days

My remote will not open garage door from outside. I can use the garage door opener that is inside the garage. What do I need to do?

sounds like RF (radio Frequincy) intreferance. cell phone towers/tv/radio towers, I've even found the infa red on a security camera looking at driveway was disrupting the remotes A good garage door opener repairer with a m-18 rf tester can help. If RF is not in your home(walkie talkies..), Goverment controls that through the FCC- we aint able to do sqwat, u do have one last resort, change out the opener, its the freq. the opener is set at from manufacture- in other words-pot luck....

Programing garage door openers

Press the button on the garage door opener (red, green, or yellow) until the led starts to blink and within 10 seconds or so, ( I think it's actually 30 seconds) press the GDO control button on the remote and the opener should capture the signal and respond to it from then on. Any remotes that were set to control the opener will be wiped and the new one will be in control. There are instructions that came with the opener that show how to do this from the remote or the key-less entry. If you are talking about an in-car device then your vehicle manual may be needed too, but the main thing is to set the GDO to be looking for the code from the car remote and when you press the in-car remote the garage door should respond. If you have programmed a remote or key-less entry then it is about the same procedure.

Setting garage door opener

Most openers are programmed the same. You normally program the house garage opener to accept the new remote. Your garage opener will have a button to press to add in a new remote. Normally you press this and then press the remote in the car and hold until your lights on your opener flash or the garage door closes. (check your manual on your garage door opener)

Having trouble setting garage door opener to my 2004 trailblazer

1. Position vehicle within 10 feet of garage door- engine off and battery on.

2. Press/hold 2 outside buttons of Homelink transceiver until red indicator starts flashing rapidly, then release button. This should take about 20 seconds. This erases any previously learned codes.

3. Press/hold remote control and press/hold button of Homelink transceiver simultaneously. Slowly move remote control from 5" away to 1" away from Homelink transceiver. Release both buttons after red indicator starts blinking rapidly. This should take about 5 seconds. I discovered that the Homelink in my TL is a bit faulty because it took much longer to accomplish this than when programming the Homelink in my MDX. My TL's Homelink may "unlearn" it's code in the future and the needed proximity of the TL to the garage door may be much closer than desired until I get the Homelink fixed.

4. Press training button on garage door opener unit until the indicator lights illuminates- this should be immediate.

5. Within 30 seconds press/hold the Homelink button for 2-3 seconds until the red indicator starts flashing rapidly. Repeat a second time. It should now be programmed. Check it by pressing the programmed button on the Homelink receiver.

6. When programming more than 1 garage door opener unit, disconnect power from unit before programming more units. By not doing this the programmed unit could conflict with the unprogrammed units commands.

Problems:

1. The Battery in the garage door remote may be too weak to program Homelink. However, the battery may be strong enough to operate the garage door. One of my remote controls had a weak battery- my system was installed today, fresh out of the box. I had to use the second remote control for the programming of Homelink on my 2 vehicles.

2. Antenna on the garage door opener unit must be hanging down, fully extended.
