I have a 2001 Chevy Impala LS that won't crank,

I doubt it has anything to do with the key switch.
If the security system is the cause, the security warning light should be on.
Someone would need to check the circuit between the key switch and the starter when it fails to crank to find the problem.

I changed the water pump on my 2006 Chevy impala 3.5 v6. When I reconnected the battery, it won't start. The headlights come on and they are bright, the radio works. However, the interior lights do not...

You may have shorted out a wire or two during the replacement. I would check the wiring harnesses under the hood, all the fuses and for error codes (DTC's) using a code reader before doing anything else.

I suggest that you go to the dealer for help, because they will know if the problem has occurred before, and how to fix it.

Security light came onm and car would not start could not even get the remote locks to work and all lights stayed on. We unplugged the battery and left the cra overnight. Went back the next day and hooked...

The security light is a real common problem on GM vehicles. You can fix this yourself, read this link for information, symptoms, and ways to fix it. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

The air conditioning probably got messed up when unhooking the battery. Id be looking for a fuse or relay that has been tripped.

2001 chevy impala security light keeps coming on

This is a problem with chevy vehicles that have the system theft light. after a couple of years of using the key, the lock tumblers inside the ignition switch tend to wear out and so causing the system to think it's being stolen. Now you have to put the key in and turn the ignition to the on position, without cranking the car and leave it for 10 minutes until the theft light goes out. Very annoying especially if you're in a hurry. The dealer cost to repair the ignition switch goes for about $600-$800. that includes re-teaching the key.

• Resynchronization may be necessary due to the security method used by the remote keyless entry system. Resynchronization may be necessary due to the security method used by the remote keyless entry system.
The transmitter does not send the same signal twice to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR). • The RCDLR will not respond to a signal that has been sent previously. This prevents anyone from recording and playing back the signal from the transmitter. • Resynchronization may be necessary under the following conditions: - The battery in the transmitter is very weak. - The battery in the transmitter was replaced. - The battery in the vehicle has been in a low or no charge condition for an extended period of time. • In order to resynchronize the transmitter with the RCDLR, perform the following steps: 1. Stand within 1.5 m (5 ft) from the vehicle. 2. Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter for 7 seconds

2001 Chevy Impala won't start

If the battery has gone dead, it could cause the security system to go into full lock-up mode. If it has locked up the accessories will work after the battery is charged back up , but the power to the starter will be cut off and it wont turn over. You need to do the 30 minute learn procedure. A GM dealer will print it out for you and you can do it yourself. It's very simple if you follow the procedure exact. hope this helps and good luck.
