My battery had to be removed for my 2005 vw beetle. I need the code, but I don't have my manual since I bought my car used. I don't know how to get my radio back up and running....any suggestions?

The code is set at the factory and can't be changed so you'll have to go to VW to get it. Get the instructions for setting it at the same time. Hope this helps.

did you change the system away from original installation
If you did then it is no wonder that they are not helpful as it creates all sorts of problems for them
you will need to contact VW technicians /engineers to get radio codes if it is not in the owners manual that came with the car
In your VW manual you should have received a booklet that pertains to the radio.
Written on the inside front cover of that booklet is a 4 digit number.
If you do not have this booklet you will need to call VW to get the code
(I don't know if there is a cost associated with this or not.) When you
turn your radio on (usually after interupting power to the vehicle) you
will get a "safe" message on the radio face plate. After 3 seconds you
will get 4 numbers. Enter the assigned 4 digit number by using the
preset radio buttons 1-4. Once you get the number in, push the portion of the "scan" button until you get an audible "beep." Your radio
should be back in business.
I have had this problem before and it turned out to be a bad switch internal to the shifter assembly. As far as I know the switch is not serviceable separately and the shifter assy. will need replaced.
2000 Beetle radio has a 10amp fuse at its rear left. have to remove radio to get to it. removing and returning radio is not easy. let me know if you need help with that as i have done this repeatedly on two different 2000 beetles and finally have it downpat. of course you need radio code, have found an article on how to disable VW radio anti-theft code but have not tried it yet.
TURN IGNITION SWITCH OFF.MAKE SURE RADIO IS OFF SO YOU WONT LOSE CODE.DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.WAIT AT LEAST 10 MINUTES BEFORE REMOVING AIR BAG.LET THE AIR BAG BATTERY BACK UP POWER. DISCHARGE.BECAREFUL HANDLING AIR BAG. DONT CARRY IT BY IT WIRES.WHEN CARRYING IT.HOLD IN BOTH HANDS SECURLY.WHEN LAYING IT DOWN .BESURE THE BAG AND TRIM COVER FACING UP.BESURE TO KEEP KIDS AND PETS AWAY. BECAUSE AIR BAG CAN STILL BE DEPLOYED.SO BE CAREFUL.
Check if you have a pull tab. A headlight cover typically has a pull tab molded in it so that you can easily take off the cover when you want to clean it
