fuses blow because of dead shorts or excess current draw
to blow a 15 amp fuse indicates a dead short
by disconnecting the rear lights , the problem is in something else you have replaced
could be a problem in the head light wiring
My 1997 Z71 did this twice last Summer. PRNDL indicator didn't work, Tach, Speedometer, didn't work. Only 1st & 3rd in auto Trans worked. Fuse for all this wasn't getting any power. Replaced ignition switch. Fixed problem.
I had this same problem with a 1997 Z71 K1500. That fuse was receiving power from the ignition switch in my truck. After putting 4 ignitions in it in 6 months, I finally figured out that every time I put the transfer case in 4Low, the service engine light would come on & the ignition switch would go bad soon after. The electric motor that engaged transfer case was bad. Every time I engaged 4 Low, It would throw power surge to ignition & blow it up.
You can not continue what your doing ,until you have a service
manual or some type of reference material to understand the
system your trying to diagnose.
You only replace a fuse (1) time, then you get out the wiring
diagrams, you should have for all your vehicles
If your not willing to go that far, you will have to hope that
a repair shop or my last choice & never recommend you do,
go to a dealer.
Cheak all wiring, one little **** in the wire will make a fuse blow. I had the same problem with my starter and i replaced the starter but it was still blowing the fuse, come to find out it wus a wire burnt into so cheak all wires carfully.
The axel disconnect solenoid could be the problem. But first check the fuse for the solenoid, in the fuse junction box under the left side of the dash.
It's fuse # 23 10amp. Also there is a fuse for the transfer case shift module, in the power dist. box under the hood on the left fender. It's fuse#17 30amp.
Check these first before moving on to the t/c shift
module, behind the ctr.of the dash. And the shift mode selector switch,in the dash. There have been
some issues with the selector sw. Hope this helps.
