Horn not working - very weak

The horn on my 2006 ford explorer xlt is very weak both when I try to toot the horn on the steering wheel and when I lock the car with the remote. Could it be a fuse? Where is the horn located if it needs to be replaced? What could cause this to happen?

There is a diagram of sorts in the horn. They go bad from dirt and water getting in them. Replace it !! and make sure the connections r clean! good luck

Its the horn unit itself just replace it but check the connection on the horn first.

I have a 2014 Ford explorer XLT horn won't blow when pushed but my alarm will go off randomly

When you press the horn switch on the steering wheel nothing happens ? Do any of the other buttons on the steering work ? cruise control etc... Is the air bag light lit on the instrument cluster ? Normally hooking up a professional grade scan tool to check for codes would point to the problem .

Horn has stopped working on my 2006 Ford Explorer. The fuse seems to be fine. What could be the problem?

I would suspect an underhood fuse, the steering wheel clock spring, or a wiring problem. It's cheap to triple check all the fuses. The other two will require some troubleshooting to figure out. Since the horn works with the keyless entry, the relay, the horn, and its control wiring seem to be ok.

Horn problem on 2001 ford explorer xlt

Hi there,

Inspect the following components, in this order (with key off) until you get it working:

** Disconnect the plugs from the Horn terminals. Run separate jumper wires from the Batt (NEG & POS), to the horn. If horn does not work, then replace horn. If horn works fine, then continue....

** Check fuse # 10 (15A), in the Battery Junction Box - replace if defective. Check horn operation.

** Check Horn Relay (also in the Battery Junction Box) - remove the relay, give it a gentle tap, and plug back in. Check horn operation.

If all the above prove ok, then the fault lies in your steering wheel/horn switch assembly.

Cheers,

I have a 96 explorer xlt v6 has alarm that works thru the horns. the horns quit working checked fuses in dash no burnt ones looked for horns or horn under hood could not locate where they were. doug

The horns are located on the left side of the radiator
support. To check them, use a jumper wire from the
+post on the battery unplug the horn and touch the
wire to the horn contact. If it toots check the horn relay in the power dist. box on the left fender. Also
check fuse #4 a 20amp fuse in the same dist box.
But if the horn won't toot replace the horn. If none of
the things I've mentioned pan out. You can get back
to us and we'll dig a little deeper. Good luck.

Horn does't work n 2000 suburbun

Most systems have a horn, a relay, a fuse, and a switch inside the steering wheel. If you can find the horn, usually in the front behind the grille or next to the radiator, you can jump it directly from the battery with two heavy wires to see if it works. If it does not toot with power directly from the battery it is bad. If it does toot then find where the fuses/relays are by reading your owner's manual and replace the horn relay and/or fuse. Relays are generally plugged into the fuse panel too. You can visually inspect the fuse for failure. If no problem there then you are at the steering wheel disassembly and testing level which means special tools and knowledge. Due to airbag even a veteran shade tree mechanic will not venture into a steering wheel so dealer is indicated.
