First check your coolant level and the level it protects your cooling system. Possible cause of the problem you are describing is the wrong thermostadt (i.e., missing the thermostadt or one that opens at too low of a temperature) would cause this. A temperary fix is to fix a piece of carboard across the front lower third of the radiator to block some of the air from cooling the coolant. You'll want to watch the temp guage when you do this so you can adjust the amount of blockage that works best for you; block more of the radiator or less depending what your temp guage shows. Block to much of the radiator and you can cause your car to overheat. Overheat your motor too much and you can really damage the engine.
