Is there any way to get around changing the whole throttle body to replace the tps

For the I6 engine, there is a Throttle Body Position Sensor, (TPS) attached to the actual throttle body. This cannot be removed from the throttle body itself. You need to buy the whole throttle body which includes the TPS. Just did this myself, one of the chain stores offers lifetime warranty by the way. It's very easy, turn off all HVAC inside the cab, then disconnect the battery first, very important step. Take the top resonator off, unhook the black ducting going to the air cleaner box and throttle body. Disconnect the electrical connector on top of the throttle body. Now it's just 4 easy bolts for the entire throttle body to come off. You CAN reuse the old hard plastic O-ring, no need to get another one unless it's damaged.

On the throttle body itself. It will move with the cable.

On the I6 engine it's a problem with your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). These can be checked using a meter. Can cause problems with shifting, stalling, not idling well. One note, the TPS is integrated into the throttle body it'self, so you need to replace the whole throttle body just to get a new TPS. Very easy for someone to check or replace, won't set you back too too much.

This is a common problem with GM's. The TPS sensor goes bad in the throttle body. Throws out a message to service Stabilitrac. Not SO!!!
The kicker is that the whole throttle body has to be replaced because the TPS sensor is actually part of the throttle body!!! Costs around $250.00 for aftermarket.

Have you tried calling Honda parts to see if they sell just the tps? If they sell it then it is replaceable. Hope this help.

Try replacing the TPS....Throttle Position Sensor, instead of the whole throttle body. In thirty plus years I can only remember changing one throttle body....and that was because I broke it!

on the hyundai the tps rarely fails. so check the pedal sensor on pedal of car. there are 2 sensors on this car, one on side of carburator, and one at accelerater pedal check this one first. the throttle body does not need to be changed to fix the tps. but usually it is located on the throttle body. at the throttle plate.

I think the terms "Throttle Positon Sensor", TPS and "Throttle Body" can be misleading at least in regards to the 04 Camry.

My 04 Camry gave a diagnostic reading of P2121 for my problem "Throttle PEDAL position switch D circuit". However, we changed out the complete Throttle Body/TPS (Toyota Part #22030-0H020) that did NOT fix problem.

The 04 Camry TPS Electronic Module "Throttle Positon Sensor" is factory assembled and riveted to the side of the throttle body. The only way to service/inspect it would be to cut off or drill out the rivets. Not sure you could open the darn thing if you got it off, but that seems to be the only way Toyota sells them!!

Hopefully a new Throttle PEDAL Position Sensor (Toyota Part # 78010-33010 PEDAL ASSY, ACC)
will fix it. This is located under the dash near the accelerator pedal.

So, now I would recommend FIRST to replace the "Throttle PEDAL Positon Sensor" (it is much, much cheaper) and then the Throttle Body/TPS assembly!! Unless of course, you get a diagnostic code as you did for "faulty throttle body!!

its located on the opposite side of the throttle body as the throttle cable. remove the whole throttle body then remove the TPS from it.

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere on the engine. If the tps was bad, it would set a code and the check engine light would be on. Also, check your air tube that goes to your throttle body - make sure the hoses are connected tight and the tps is on the throttle body down on the front of your engine where the hose runs down to it. It's not really that hard to get the throttle body off. That would be the best way to change the tps - to take the whole throttle body off and put new gaskets on and tps on it.
