The fuel pump/module could of just gone bad and has nothing to do with the head gasket replacement. Did you release the fuel pressure when working on engine ?
Parts stores and dealer ships can run the engine size off the VIN number. The number is on the dash, drivers side, down by the hood. Look threw the windshield to get the number. The engine digit is the eighth digit from the left.
The engine code is located on the engine block (different locations depending on the engine). It is a 3 letter code followed by six digits. You may also find the code in the service manual of the car. AWD, AWW and AWP are 1.8L gas ALH is a 1.9L turbo diesel BEW is a 1.9L turbo diesel (PD) AEG, AVH, AZG, BBW, BEV are 2.0L gas AFP, BDF are 2.8L gas
Engine designation is also found in the VIN. It is the 5th digit in the VIN. Go to BentleyPublishers.com for more details on what it means for your car as it varies by year and model.
The only 2 methods I know of to obtain coding for any control unit (and they both require the use of a code reader) are to either read the coding from the old unit, or to code the unit online, but this method can only be done at a VW dealership.
You didnt say why you need the coding, the only reason to require this is if you have replaced the ABS control unit.
No the vin number has nothing to do with the radio code the dealer has a automated phone number they call and tells them how to retrieve a code and the manufature gets the unlock code from this, try to google radio unlock procedure for the vw passat.
Hi - I don't know the answer off hand but there is just a chance you could do a Sherlock Holmes job yourself, because many of the relays have unique pin layouts and cannot fit into the wrong place. The numbers may be misleading - on my Sharan some of the relays have numbers which are sideways or upside down when correctly installed! If you find that one relay will go into more than one socket, or more than one relay will go into one socket then you will need further help, but if there is, say, a five pin relay and only one five pin socket, it's got to be right, hasn't it?
If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a rating to help others judge my knowledge / guessing skills. If they do not, please add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D
