If the battery was run down enough 20 minutes of dring will not recharge it. It should go on a battery charger and then the battery condition checked. Just sitting and using the battery to play the radio is not a good idea. That is very hard on the battery and will shorten the life severly. If the battery was still the original I'd just replace the battery for a battery that old too much damage would have been done to even chance using it if would last it will not be long.

Car not able to stay on.

If battery keep dying in few hours then check if there is something drawing battery while car is of. It could be something easy like broken switch on door which leaves lights on to faulty computer which doesn't turn off . Sometimes those things are almost impossible to find and chaperone is to disconnect battery when leaving car overnight. Just make sure there is not electrical short somewhere which may cause car fire. Also is good idea to park car in quiet place, tur it off and listen for anything running, like radiator fan, ac blower etc.

7.3L ford diesel that starts and dies after sitting 2 hours

check your fuel pressure to make sure it is coming up to spec. if not, then replace the fuel pressure regulator. there are some sensors that come into play during the starting cycle and warm-up cycle that do not get read by the computer at operating temperature. you will have to see which ones in your vehicle monitor during the ignition phase to see if any of these are failing.

next time you have it sitting turn your key to on and listen for your fuel pump. if you hear a whir and click its working if not? go there 1st. the only other thing it might be that you could test I can think of is the catalytic converter. there is a test plug and if you pull that and its starts BINGO! good luck.

I just turned on my car after being out of town for a few days and it made a loud knocking sound and the service engine light is on. It has never made this sound before. It's not the weather.

alot of times when you let a car sit for a while, the oil will slowly drain down into the oil pan. When you start the engine, the knocking you hear is all the metal parts flying around, waiting for the oil pump to start spraying the oil everywhere. If you start it back up, let it run for a minute and listen for the noise to quieten down, it should eventually go away. You can help prevent the dry start as you are having by using good synthetic oil, and sometimes adding in LUCAS oil treatment.

Our 2003 Saturn L200 turns over, but won't start...like it's not getting gas. This just started happening and only after we've already driven it that day. The first time it happened was...

Check fuel pressure at the injector rail. If good, suspect crankshaft position sensor--when it fails to start, check for sparks by pulling an ignition wire off the coils and holding it close to the coil with an insulated tool while someone cranks the engine. If no sparks, replace the sensor.

I had a similar issue where the alarm went off, pulled the battery to silence, and upon re-connecting it the Jeep wouldn't start. It's a protection mechanism built into the security system to prevent tampering/bypassing the system. The computer goes into lockdown and won't start...

To clear it you have to reconnect the battery and leave it sit. It's supposed to be a 60min cycle, but it seemed like it took longer for me. I plugged it in before leaving for work (in my wife's vehicle) and she tried starting it several hours later when she needed to run an errand and it started right up.

if the car just wine's when starting like it would normally and nothng is happening...Check for fuel, either find the fuel pressure relief valve near the rear of the engine, and depress the valve stem (fuel should hit the roof of hood) if not then its a fuel problem, try this a couple times, but turning the key over, and listen for noise from the gas t ank to see if the pump is actuating.. if you hear the noise while just turn the keyy to acc, not start plz comment back that you hear it , but its still doesnt start....

2004 saturn vue Replaced battery. Radio and Cd no longer work.

Turn off the car and remove the negative battery cable off. let sit a few minutes then reconnect the cable. try it several times. The removal of the battery causes the computer to deprogram itself. what you will be doing is re-programming the computer module.
