Call an auto parts store and ask them if they have a listing for a belt without a/c for that car, if there is, they will give you the right size belt.

Need help I have a saab 93 convertable 2.0 i non turbo 1998 model drive belt has gone dont know where to find the ajuster to put the belt on. And a diagrame to see how it goes on.Regards James.

Here is a link to a Dayco PDF file that will have a belt diagram for you. Find you car on the main page, fine the number to the diagram and thats how you belt routes. Depends on month of manufacture yours could have 2 guide or tensioner pulleys. Facing the engine, one should be the top left pulley, that one is common to all. The optional tensioner will be the next pulley to the right. If one is missing it may have fallen off and you may be able to run a shorter belt.

How to bypass the ac with a shoter belt

There is a easy way to re-route the belt after the A/C is removed on any 4.6L Due to the idler and tensioner. When the a/c is not running the pulley spins freely anyway. On 99 and older panthers you can get a shorter belt to bypass the power steering for a little extra power, but need install A/C COMPRESSOR BYPASS PULLEY, or you could buy a a/c compressor delete kit comes with a bracket and idler pulley, that would make things easier, you can use a stock belt with that kit.

Check this for 99' and older belt routing...

Also, check this diagram (click over pic for zoom)...

zjlimited_250.jpg

The tensioner would still work, just not very well. So you would need to by a tight belt to compensate. As far as measuring the new belt size, you will need to use a tape measure, or some string and then measure the length. The best option is an a/c delete 'kit'

Green line represents a revised belt routing in order to *bypass* the A/C compressor. With this method, the tensioner WILL work but VERY limited - you must purchase a tight belt.

Note this is only applicable for the '93-'99 belt routing

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

On a 2001 saab 93 turbo can can you bypass the ac compressor or is there a bypass pulley

You can bypass both the AC compressor and the middle serpentine idler pulley with a 6PK1790. The middle pulley is bypassed by running the belt straight line from the upper rear serpentine idler straight to the power steering pulley, then over the water pump (the smooth pulley powered by the back side of the belt) and down to the engine drive pulley (harmonic balancer), bypassing the AC compressor) This works fine. On 9.5 models, the same basic idea, but a slightly different sized belt.

Serpentine belt changing pattern

This configuration eliminates one idler pulley, and one that is difficult to change also. Since many of the idler pulleys have a relatively short life eliminating one will save you money and aggravation.

How do I change the serpentine belt on a 97 saab 900s

The Saab accessory drive (serpentine) belt is self-tensioning by means of a tensioning pulley. Excessive play means that the current belt is spent and must be replaced. It is a very good idea to replace the idler pulley above the tensioner pulley at this time as the bearings fail over time. You can get an aftermarket pulley of machined billet aluminum construction with a repalceable bearing race from Wazee Pulleys. This pulley is superior to the stock one in just about every conceivable way.
To remove the belt you will need a 1/2 inch socket extension bar that will fit exactly in the top of the tensioning pulley housing and a six mm allen key. This site shows the proper routing of the stock belt and the routing procedure to bypass the highly failure prone center idler pulley if you so elect, as well as the procedure to remove and fit a new belt. Note, the belts shown on this site are for the short-belt modification only. The stock replacement belt is Part Code: 4904728 Brand:
Description: Serpentine belt for any 94-98 NG 900 4cyl. Price: $35.90 at Eeuroparts.com.
To remove the belt, you will find it best to remove the airbox to allow you more room at the top end to work. Also, jack up the car and remove the passenger wheel to give you access down below.
