I have an 1989 chevrolet c1500 and i want to buy a used engine for it so what engine is compatible with my truck so that i dont have to spend money switching out other parts to make the engine compatible?

Chevy made at least five different engines for pickups in 1989, and with a lot of accessory options. Check this link and select your pickup and engine size. When you get the listing of belts, if you see a small camera icon in the left column, click on it and you will see the diagram of the routing.
The 89 truck uses a cable it is not a magnetic pick up so there is an inner and ottter cable and you can buy from any parts store. inner cable runs 10 dollars a fitted inner and outter cable is about 425.00 and is the way I would go.
don't know for sure but my 98 had simmilar problems and it ended up being the ignition switch,not the key switch but the actual ign switch.worth a try.
