It is probably not the alternator. Unless of course your battery is going dead. If thats the case it might by alt. If battery is fine and not dying have the ignition coil or coil pack checked.

DO YOU NEED TO JUMP START CAR AFTER IT DIES OR DO YOU JUST LEAVE IT FOR ABIT . the best way to test your alternator is buy using a multimeter there should be 12 v avarage when not running and at least 14v when running if you dont get this voltage then your alternator needs replacing

New batterey an new alternator still dies when i unhook pos cable

Where both rebuilt alternators any good
& retested at store?

Your explaining a constant voltage drop,
once the battery is hooked up.

How about the ignition switch?
Does that have anything to do with
the regulator control in alternator?

You haven't said you have 14 plus volts
with motor running,so basically you don't
have an alternator charging your new battery
& the ignition currant, even without the lights on,
is running down the battery

All I said is what you already know

I'm is missing something?

Don't unhook any battery cables with
the motor running, were not living in the 1960's

Those type tests will ruin many things on newer
vehicles, than yours, loose that practice & also avoid
jump starting any vehicle from 1996 on

Guru is there any recourse I can take in that I was told the issue was a fuel pump and had it replaced.

Thats very good news. Be advised that on your vehicles system, the ten minute trick resets the vehicles TDM. If the problem happens again in the future, your TDM is failing. It should never need to be reset (ten minute trick) unless it is failing. Be thinking about getting this replaced or bypassed so you dont get caught off gaurd. Good luck. Happy things are working again.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE LOW VOLTAGE. PUT A VOLTMETER ON THE BATTERY WHILE TURNING THE KEY IN THE START POSITION. IF THE VOLTAGE DROPS BELOW 8 VOLTS, THAT IS TOO LOW. BATTERY NEEDS TO BE CHARGED OR REPLACED & TERMINALS CLEANED. IF IT STARTS CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM. MOTOR RUNNING, VOLTAGE AT THE BATTERY SHOULD READ 13.90 TO 14.90. IF IT IS TOO LOW GET THE ALTERNATOR TESTED.

My 2003 Sorento will randomly hit a pothole and die. After waiting 2 minutes on the side of the road it restarts with no problem. Mechanic here says "replace" the turbo. What does that mean and where do...

I dont think it will be a turbo fault, the car would still run and you would really know if the turbo had gone.

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion. Over the last two year I have had an intermittent problem with the car not starting. I'll stop at a store come back out within ten minutes and the car engine will not turn over....

Brad,
I too have the same vehicle with the same problem, however I don't think its a battery or alternator problem. I thought those were it at first too however after getting both checked that was not the case. My friends and family who have experience with cars think this is a computer glich of some kind, let me know if you figure this out!
Thanks,
David

Voltmeter drops to 9 volts on Chev 454 P30 motorhome

this is eithere a loose positive cable from the altenator to the battery or the regulator in the altenator is about to fail. if you have not had any problems starting the vehicle then most likely its a loose connection between the gauge and the charginging circuit or the gauge is faulty. take a multimeter and test the charging votage at the altenator while the vehicle is running it should measure 13.5 volts and should not change more than .5 volts. if the voltage drops more than 1 volt the regulater is bad and the altenator needs to be replaced. if it is working fine then looke for a bad connection make sure all positive and ground cables are tight. if they are replace amp gauge
