Where is the crankshaft positioning sensor located on a '92 buick century w/a 3.3 ci & how do you replace it.

Behind the large pulley at the lower part of your motor. You have to remove the belt and then loosen the large bolt that holds it in place. Use a pulley puller to remove the harmonic balancer. With that off, loosen the screw that holds the bracket to the mount. Position the new bracket on the mount and tighten. Be sure that the gaps in the new sensor are postioned correctly. Replace balancer and belt and you should be good to go.

yes besides causing a vibration while driving and possible throwing belts the balancer out of balance can cause problems with the lower end crankshaft such as seal leaks ,bearings and if breaks off or apart can cause damage to engine and body

Locate crank sensor on 1990 buick century

Hello, the crank position sensor or (CPS) censor is located directly behind the harmonic balancer (or fly wheel at the very bottom). The sensor is located on the right side of the harmonic balancer when facing the front of the motor. You must remove the harmonic balancer to replace the sensor. You must also re-align the sensor with 30 thousands of an inch tolorence, or your car may idle rough or may not start. I own a 1990 Buick Century and just replaced my CPS sensor last month. There is a trick I learned to reinstalling the new sensor. Let me know if you need that information.
