If your plugs weren't wired right you would have trouble with missing, rough idle if it would start and run. Some gas not getting burnt suggests that a tune up may be in order. New plugs, wires, cap and rotor. It would be a good idea to have the throttle body checked out, 16 years of gas flow will wear it and maybe its putting out a little too much gas. Going one hotter on your plugs could also help get rid of that unburnt gas. Make sure there are no codes that would affect gas consumption, if there is fix them first. Hope this helps.

First make sure you didnt damage any of your plugs by cracking them during installation and second make sure you have the right firing order you may have crossed wires while installing your plugs.

My car won't pass smog . (ca.) the no (ppo) measurement is 739 max allowed is 704 . what could be the problem i'd need to fix inorder to pass?

i would buy a really good set of spark plugs and replace the wires and distributar cap this will burn more of the smog off and get the plugs with 4 prongs they fire much better and improve your gas mileage and make it run smoother hope this helps

Have a 1989 f250 5.8 that didnt pass smog the guy told me its running rich the report said the HCdidnt pass just by a few numbers everthing else passed so i put plugs cap wires o2 sensor and a new brake...

Would double check your firing order on your cap.If running worse almost positive some wires were crossed.The spark plug firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 ) and runs counterclockwise on the distributor cap.

White smoke from tail pipe, Changed rings and head gasket still there.

White smoke or steam? If it's smoke, I bet you have an automatic transmission, trans fluid makes white smoke. There is a vacuum line from the trans to engine somewhere, there is probably a diaphragm that's broken. call your local trans shop it shouldn't be a huge expense to fix.
please leave a fixya rating if I'm correct

1988 grand marquis won't start 305 cid v-8 fi

Hello,

Put on a "spark box" into your ignition. I have a Mallory HI-Fire 6A (?) and the car starts and runs good. You will also get better gas mileage and pass smog test.

Brake booster

Emmision is the fumes produced by your exhaust. Do a tune up on the car and have it checked for exhaust leaks. Spark plugs, Wires, oil change if needed, O2 sensor, Air filter and such thing as this should put it back into order. Which state is this? If it is california then you might want a professional opinion because they no more about smog canisters and stuff likethat. But tune up should do it.
