Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, at the engine end of the hose where it connects to a large hose nipple, remove the hose and unbolt the cover, the T-stat is under that nipple cover.

Your question was cut off, but I believe there\'s enough info to know what you\'re asking.
First, what engine does he have? The 4.0 L straight six or the 5.2 L V-8?
If the old pump has 2 fuel connections, one is for supply (pressure) and the other one is for return to tank. The new pump will have to have both of these nipples for the system to work properly.
Just to clarify,, is his old pump a 2-nipple one and the new one with only 1 nipple? Or is the old one a 3 nipple and the new one a 2-nipple?
oil in the cooling system is an oil cooler in the radiatro failure
fix is new radiator
oil in a cooling system leads to overheating as it prevents the water from contacting the cylinder walls to transfer the heat
The system will have to be flushed professionally to fix the problem
have a compression test doen to check for head gasket problem as well
This reply falls under, " what else should I look at."
When you press to squirt, do you hear any sound? if you do there are 3 easy things you can do.
1. Some of the windshield wiper reserviors, ( plastic bottles ), need a minimumlevel of fluid to operate, so, make sure you fill up your reservior.
If that doesn't help;
2. There is a very small hose that runs from the reservior to the pump, pull it off of the pump end, very carefully, and have someone hit the squirter.
If fluid comes through the hose;
3. Take a very small paper clip, straighten one end out, and push it into the ports that the water shoots out of to squirt the windshield.
Sometimes wax or debree can clogg these very little holes.
The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system. There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank,this is the purge line. With the engine idling,pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing,the blockage may be there.
