Hello BDG, The answer is no. If the VSS fails on your 97 Chevy, you will lose both speedometer and odometer functions. If your speedo is still working and your odometer is not, you have a broke odometer. This is a common failure with a lot of the older vehicles that were fitted with the mechanical odometer registers. Feel free to contact Kincer's Service for a repair salution. GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Repair Service
Dependa on if there's a white tab at the right side of the mileage/odometer readout that shows the 10ths of miles. If there is, only five numbers register.
Anytime you disconnect the battery and re-connect it will clear the codes until the problem is re-recognized by the PCM. I do not recognize that particular code (12663155). The "Three-Over" key code is from off to on (not start). On the third time leave it in the on (but not start) position. Digital odometers will display the P codes followed by "donE".
Go register your car at autozone.com,they have a fairly comprehensive tune up guide for your vehicle, and no you don't have to remove the intake manifold from the motor.
Not sure, but most of the newer ones show 6 digits. Why do you ask?
