Yes
but it is wired into the run wire from the ignition switch if you do not have 2 wires to the positive side of the coil , it is a wasted exercise as the system requires 12 volts to run so fit a proper 12 volt coil and not a resister required 7.5 volts coil
If you find that the points are burning more that necessary , replace or increase the condenser capacitence

SOURCE: hooking up wires to battery, solenoid, altornater and starter

hi from the uk if you look at startermotor solenoid you will see two large threaded terminals with nuts? and a third small terminal either spade or round terminal ok? now you should see thet one of large terminals already has a metal or braides strap secured to it and the actual startermotor body? LEAVE THIS ALONE the other large terminal is the one you fit the positive+ lead to from battery also there should be another lead to also attach to same terminal this one supplies power for vehicles electrics etc ensure you secure these with nut ok? now the third small spade or post terminal you will hav a thin wire nearby ?this attaches to thisterminal on its own on solenoid this wire is the one that activates starter when ignition is turned to key start position ok? as for interior light not working ? try again when you complete the above also make sure bulb is ok? ps! before you reconnect starter wires ensure the earth/ground lead is disconnected from battery and when reconnecting battery connect positive lead first then the earth lead or if you try other way you will have sparking from pos lead as you try connecting to battery hope this info is clear instructios for you to follow and wish you luck best wishes from england

SOURCE: 1967 buick riviera 430 dist firing order also vacuum diagram for engine and does dist wire go on pos side of coil?

F.O. is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Rotor turns clockwise. Wire from coil to distributor is from negative side of coil. The positive side of coil is for hot wire originating from ignition switch. Always hot with key on.
For vacuum diagram, just google "1967 Buick Riviera 430 cu in, vacuum diagrams" . It is there.

My ford600 tractor won't start, was running but backfired and died.

Check the coil. Should have .4 to 2 ohms resistance on the positive and negative terminals and 6 thousand to 15 thousand on the positive and coil wire connection.

1971 F-100 pickup. How can I hotwire?

Make up a jumper wire run it from the pos side of the battery to the pos side of the coil and jump the solenoid.

Or

If you have another switch you could use that.

Or

Put the wires out of the back of the switch and find which ones that you could jump to get it to trun over and have power going to the coil.

I need a ford f150 solenoid diagram so i can hook it up

Hi, if you have the solenoid on the fender, connect the big wire from the battery on one side and the big wire to the starter on the other side. It doesn't really matter which side, but if there are additional wires that fit on a big terminal, they go along with the battery wire. The smaller terminal marked "S" gets the wire from the ignition switch (via the safety interlock switch). If there is another small terminal on the solenoid, it either goes to the ignition coil or is not used. Please let me know if you have any questions and thanks for using FixYa.

I picked up a 1988 Ford F150 6cy and the starter solenoid missing

I have provided an image that will assist you and it will connect like so;

1. Connection 1 should have the Pos. (+) battery cable and all of the wires with the large eyelet connectors from the wiring harness connected to it, except for the large cable that runs down to the starter.

2. Connection 2 should only have the large cable going down to the starter connected to it, and there should be no other wire connected there.

3. Connection 3 is the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid, and it is the wire with the small push on connector that is hot only when the key is in the "start" position, usually it is a red wire with a blue stripe, but that is not always the case.

4. Connection 4 is the "I" connection on the starter solenoid and it feeds current back into the ignition, and it is not used on a lot of vehicles after 1981, but if your vehicle has it it will be a small push on connector that will not have any power from it at all, and it will usually be a black wire with a white stripe, but that is not always so.

1989 Ford F150 5.0 Auto 2wd. Was Driving in the city and all of a sudden the truck started stumbling lost all power and turned off. Got her towed home noticed the ground to battery was cracked replaced...

If the positive cable is on the wrong side, yes no power. The positive must be on the up side of the solenoid along with the other wires (except your start wire which goes on the small post). The cable going to the starter hooks on the down side. The ground goes to a ground (usually to the motor).

I need to know where the wires go on the terminal of the solenoid on a 1990 f150

One large gauge wire goes on one side of the terminal, the battery side to other side, smaller wires in diameter all go to the battery side of the terminal and the last wire should be a push-on connector on the stud of the solenoid.bd98d5d.jpg
