The problem is with the fuel filler door switch or the wiring.
Look for a sensor on the gas cap door. It should stop the sliding door if it thinks it will hit the gas door. Meaby if you clean it up or make sure it is in correct position or might have to replace sensor.
I fixed a similar problem on my sister's 2006 Kia Sedona. There is a safety mechanism to prevent the door from opening if the fuel door is open. There is a latch on the driver's side (that is not found on the passenger's side). Close the stuck door a little to release the tension of this latch and use a screwdriver to push the latch back in enough until you can open the door. I removed the two 8mm bolts and cleaned the latch with a small wire brush and then sprayed all the working parts with a silicone lubricant). It works perfectly now. Hope this helps.

You have a sticking fuel door lock-device. Look to see if the tab is in the down position.

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Pull back the weather seal and you'll be able to get to remove the bolts securing the outer handle on

Unsure if this is specifically related to your actual problem but there is a TSB on the side door sliders for 2004, I had mine replaced under warranty.

i just had to have this fixed on my 07 sedona on the bottom arm for the doors there are litle lock solinoids that go bad i would take it to a dealer to have it checked for the switch you can turn the power off to the doors and open them manualy but they are hard to open because you are pulling the cable instead of the motor doing it and this will not hurt the doors
