yes but you will shift problems computer does not match. can t put 98 computer in 2005. check transmission shop to see what it cost to change over. some times you have to change flywheel starter and torc. shifter mount may need special mount

Is it a floor shift or column? The simplest explanation would be that the lever from the shifter is not connected to the transmission. If it is shifted with a cable from the shifter going to the transmission make sure the cable is still attached to the transmission and shifter.You need to get under the vehicle and have someone operate the shifter while you inspect it and make sure it is moving the lever on the transmission. It is apparent the transmission is stuck in drive mode and the lever or cable changing modes is not connected either at the shifter or transmission.

follow it from shifter to gearbox,it probably just clicks into gearbox bracket and snaps over ball on shifter linkage,there many be cable tis or brackets holding the cable in place,will probably bolt to shifter on an adjustable linkage

Robert on Chrysler vehicles. Sometimes its not the power or ground or even the release solenoid. Most of the time its the mechanical mechanism inside the shifter itself. I would call the dealer and see if they have problems with the shifter not coming out of park. The other thing I'd like to see you check is: When you unplug the cable from the shifter can you manually shift gears. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Robert.

You have a shift interlock problem this cable tends to bind internally a replacement of the cable may be necessary

sounds more like a gear selector cable.
kick down cable would normally be connected to the throttle somewhere and would not affect the shift lever

Hi there, if you say hard to change, does the gears grind if you change or does the shifter just feel stiff on changing???if the gears grind the clutch need checking, check the fluid level as well as it could be low, could only need to be adjusted if a cable model, most are hydraulic clutches so need to check the fluid.

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR SHIFT CABLE IS BROKEN TAKE YOUR CENTER CONSLE APART BY THE SHIFTER AND YOU WILL SEE A CABLE THAT IS CONNECTED TO YOUR SHIFTER MOVE YOUR SHIFTER BACK AND FORTH AND YOU SHOULD SEE YOUR PROBLEM.

it is either the shifter or the cable, I would go with a broken part in the shifter linkage. Detrim the steering column and see what shows up, very easy just 4 screw I think.
