do you have taillights? most of the time there on the same fuse. also chk. to see if plug is all the way in on your headlight switch.
SOURCE: Aftermarket Pioneer Stereo w/ harness, no Dash Illumination
havent a clue without looking at it but this is one of them things best left alone as i have had similar before where it runs through radio, including the alarm and the factory immobiliser cut in.just loop from another circuit to make the lights work

first check the illumation fuse which to toyota its the panel fuse, check if it is blown. if not take the aftermarket wire harness u wired in with the radio harness and disconnect the orange wire (illumation wire) and see if u have lights again. sometimes the aftermarket orange wire won't work with toyota vehicles. good luck
SOURCE: Tail lights and dash lights not working, due to headlight install
I have the same problem in an 88 Accord. I found that if I slowly turn the light switch, there is a sweet spot in between the the parking light and headlight on position (around halfway in between or so.) where all will work. The problem is , when I might a right turn signal, it turns the dash and brake lights out again and I have to refind that sweet spot.
Not very safe, so we don't drive that car at night.
I was told by a mechanic that the issue is a relay or switching mechanism located in the steering column.
