SOURCE: tail light out replaced both brake & tail lite bulbs nothing

It sounds like your brake light switch is out.  It's located on the brake pedal and is relatively easy and cheap to replace.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

SOURCE: I have a 2005 GMC

Since the high mounted brake light works you know that the brake light switch is working. Now you need to check the brake light bulbs in the rear tail light assemblies. The brake lights are separate from the tail light (parking or running lights). There are two screws that hold the rear light assemblies in place.

No, your brake lamps should only work when brake pedal is activated. Your headlamp switch shouldn't have anything to do with brake lites.
Sometimes if there is a faulty ground, your lamps may act weird?

Left brake lite doesn't work AND the tail lite goes off

Hi Ahunley, Sounds like you have cross the connection wires to the unit ( positive to earth & earth to positive) Try swapping the connectors over.

Hope this works.

Brake lights

This is a good possability, test the brake lite switch to see if you have power coming out when the brake is applied. if you do then you will need o trace the wiring back to the lite socket ( pig tail ). Good luck and remember to rate all replies you get. Thanx.
