SOURCE: 2004 Dodge Ram Diesel. Check engine light comes

You will need to have a diagnostic test on this vehicle which will then provide you some error codes. Then once you get the error code you can start looking where the fault is.Hope this helps.

SOURCE: High pitch winding noise on cold start up.

Sounds like a constricted IAC Idle air control valve passsage. Fairly simple to fix. Remove air filter trunking all the way to the throttle body to allow access. The IAC allows air passed the throttle when closed at idle. Just on the inside of the throttle body in front of the throttle flap there is an opening in the throttle wall. This is the air inlet to the IAC; there is an outlet similar on the other side of the throttle. Use carb cleaner and cloth to shift the grime from this tubing and get it like new. Hold the throttle flap open to get at both ends of the IAC tubing. The IAC can be detached and cleaned to a shine. Reinstall the IAC and replace all air pipe ducting. Leave for about 20 minutes to allow any cleaner residue to dry out. When you restart you might experience a bit of uneven running but this will disappear very quickly as the last of the cleaner dries out

Knocking sound from engine.....sound like its from the fans in the front of engine

Grab the fan blade and move it forward and backwards. If it is hitting something it will be fairly loose. Also check wiring harnesses, they can come loose and hit the fan blade. After that start listening under the car. Bad bearings/rod knock.

I'm getting an intermittent loud flapping sound when the AC is turned on my 2009 Smart ForTwo

Question. Is the flapping at a very fast pace that would indicate the speed of a fan blade hitting something? If so, you may be on to something there such as a misplaced gasket or something has dropped/fallen into the blower box via a vent.

If it is not that speed then see the following..

Hope I can give you some direction. Speaking from a generic sense all ac/heaters these days have a door or doors in the blower box that control air flow from the main part of the box to different positions when you ask for vent, heater, mix, defrost etc..

Most these days are operated with a small electric servo/motor and unfortunately the mostly have plastic gears that wear and can "thump-thump" as the motor cycles trying to open or close the flapper door.

Try to change the air direction from Max AC to regular ac to heater, defroster, bi-level etc all with the AC switch in the on position if you have a separate on/off switch.

Listen to the sound and see if it comes and goes with a different location of the selector switch.

One last question. Does it happen at idle or driving down the road at any particular speed?

Lets start with that and see what happens. This is interesting.

Good luck!

I have a 2006 Cobalt when I start it something always sounds like a fan runs after the engine runs for about 30 seconds and whatever sounds like a fan running only stays on for about 10 seconds. Can you...

I suspect that it is the operation of a viscous fan hub. Check this by placing your finger on a blade and seeing if you can spin the fan with the engine stopped. It operates when the engine is started and pumps silicone fluid from one side to the other inside the hub and when it has done so the fan slows down in relation to engine speed . Hence the fan noise on starting and then after a short period the fan noise goes away. It will start to operate again when the engine temperature starts to rise when you are stopped at lights or idling for a while to draw air through the radiator to cool the coolant and when you start moving and air is passing through the radiator again it will slow down. If you experience engine overheating while idling have it replaced as it is not pulling enough air through the radiator to do the job

When I turn the air switch on a sounds comes on like from the fan but the fan is turning if i turn the swith off the sounds goes away. where is the sound coming from?

could be the fan hitting or rubbing on the fan housing or something has fallen into the fan motor housing thru a vent such as a paperclip, coin etc. and the fan is hitting that object. correcting either problem requires the opening up of the fan motor housing.

I have a 2001 Cheverolet Suburban that makes a noise that sounds like when you stick a piece of paper or something in a fan and hit the blades at the time of acceleration between 1 1/2 and 2 RPM only for a...

It could very well be the fan hitting the fan shroud. Have your motor mounts inspected. You can do this yourself if you feel savy enough. 1. start the car 2. have someone either inside or out(depending on where you want to be)3.place in gear 4. place your foot on the brake and acelerate by snapping the throttle briefly and seeing if the motor raises. You also place it in reverse to check the other side. Replace as necessary. Let me know if you need anything else.

2004 gmc envoy engine tapping sound, it has plenty of water/antifreeze, and plenty of oil.

We have the same tapping sound on our 2003 Envoy six cylinder engine. I believe the sound is coming from the radiator fan clutch assembly. When the engine reaches its operating temperature and the fan clutch engages, the tapping sound goes away.
