Sounds like you have a sensor wire crossed or out of connection. Touching the brake makes the brake light come on and is doing a re-connect. Check that out, it's gotta be in the electrical system as you can now understand. Something is crossfeeding and/or backfeeding power to where it shouldn't.

SOURCE: GEAR STUCK ON PARK AND WON'T MOVE

I think your brake shift interlock solenoid is not releasing the Park position when you apply the brake.

Check for a blown fuse first. see owner manual for location of fuse.

Also, check owner manual for how to manually bypass the interlock.

When you step on the brake pedal, it activates a solenoid that unlocks the shift linkage cable so it will move. It is a safety feature to ensure you have you foot on the brake and not the gas, as you shift out of park.

please rate highly if this helps.

SOURCE: 1998 chevy lumina, shifter on steering column, won't shift

Either the pin that connects rod to tranny is broken off, or there is internal transmission problems.

SOURCE: The gear shift is stuck in park. The wheel moves

Make sure you have brake lamps. The shift interlock solenoid is powered by the brake lamp switch.

SOURCE: Gear shift won't move from Park sometimes. It's stuck!

If the car is inclined severly the shifter will be harder to move as more of a load rests on the park gear. You may have to pull it hard but should come out of park. Make sure your foot is firmly on the brake pedal too and the key is in the on position

SOURCE: my trans is stuck in second gear. Is that what

The town and country vans are know for transmission problems and it would not be stuck in 2nd gear if it was in limp mode. Limp mode typically controls the engine. I have seen people do a transmission flush/filter and add lucas to temporary fix the problem. There is also a good chance that the transmission has a solenoid problem preventing it from shifting into any other gears but second. Hope this helps!

I have a JCB 214 series 3 1995 it will not move it was working fine going forward and reverse then it just stopped and it was always kind of hard to switch into different gears but now it just slips very...

Needs a clutch. Not cheap your gonna have to pull the transmission the clutch pack is reasonable 150.00 to 225.00 its the labor that is expensive. Don't recommend doing it yourself unless you are up to the task and have the ability and the tools, some special alignment clutch tools. ASE master certified mechanic.

The gear shift gets stuck in park how can i stop that or if theres an easy way to fix it

There is a brake interlock that keeps you from moving the gearshift unless you have the brake applied. It is meant to keep people from putting the transmission in gear without first stepping on the brake. There are several thing that can make this system not work, if you are not the sort to do it your self this is probably not the time to take up auto repair as a hobby. It is not super hard but it is inside the steering column

My 1994 Subaru Impreza seems to feel as if the emergency brake is stuck; however it is not. I can place the car in first gear, but first gear only....it will not move past 1st gear. What is this...

Sounds like a broken shifter or linkage issue. But you can do this:

Go to online site of autozone, oreillys...etc and you may have to register but they have free online step by step manuals.
