If the work was done correctly and the key correctly programmed it would seem the car developed an unrelated fault sometime during the replacement. That isn't impossible but it is a bit unlikely so the chances are greater there is either something wrong with the work or doing the work has created a new fault or the key programming wasn't good.

I suggest you revisit the work and double check everything as a first step.

SOURCE: steering column locked

temporary solution is to put the key in the ignition and tap on the end that attaches to the ring vdery gently with something like a pocket knife. this allows the pin to fall into place and work better. try to keep the key in an unbound... not against either the clockwise limit or counterclockwise limit.... as you are tapping. if this works, lubricate the lock and get it to a locksmith before it quits working all together and the lock needs to be drilled

It sounds like you have a bad actuator. This is attached to the starter and has a solonoid that pushes the starter motor gears into the engine gear. If the solonoid is faulty this may happen. Also check alignment of the same.

Broken steering pin lock

As the pin is in the bracket on the end of the switch you may be able to manipulate it if you can get the key and barrel out of the bracket around the steering column. Otherwise you will have to have the bracket removed from the column and fit a new one .

If the keys have a chip, you may have to go back to the wrecker and get the computer out of the same car. Not sure about your car, but thats the way the older gm products are. If there is no chip on the key... i'm out. Sorry.

Program a replacement key for a toyota avalon 2005

There is no way for u to program your own key, either a locksmith (not all can do the programing) or the dealer has to do it with a special electronic scan tool.
