You will have to get under the car , and reach up behind the front grille as far up as the hood latch, and MANUALLY release it. It's tricky but doable. I've done it many times. Hope this helps

there is a special tool for this job but I have cheated on this but you ned to be careful when doing this.The wishbone shaped mount on the front going from motor to front of vehicle, remove and it allows the motor to tilt.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION


CAUTION When draining coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze, and quite likely to drink any is is left in an uncovered container or puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Therefore, drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused Unless it is contaminated or several years old. The epa warns that prolonged contact with used engine oil may cause a number of skin disorders including cancer. You should make every effort to minimize your exposure to engine oil. Protective gloves should be worn when dealing with engine oil. Wash exposed skin immediately after contact with oil with soap and water, or waterless hand cleaner.
3.8L VIN C Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Using a scribing tool, matchmark the hood hinges and remove the hood.
  2. Label and disconnect the air flow sensor wiring. Depressurize the fuel system.
  3. Remove the air intake duct. Remove the throttle cable and bracket from the throttle body. Place a clean drain pan under the radiator, open the drain **** and drain the cooling system.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the exhaust pipe-to-exhaust manifold bolts and separate the exhaust pipe.
  6. Remove the engine mount bolts.
  7. If equipped with a driveline vibration absorber, remove the bolts and disconnect the absorber.
  8. Label and disconnect the electrical connectors from the starter. Remove the starter-to-engine bolts and the starter.
  9. If equipped with air conditioning, remove the compressor mounting bolts and position aside. Do not discharge the system or disconnect the refrigerant lines.
  10. Place a pan under the power steering gear. Disconnect the hydraulic lines and drain the fluid. Use a length of wire to hold the hoses aside.
  11. Remove the lower transaxle-to-engine bolts.

One bolt is situated between the transaxle case and the engine block. It is installed in the opposite direction to the other bolts.
  1. Remove the flywheel cover. Matchmark the flexplate-to-torque converter relationship to insure proper alignment upon installation. Remove the flexplate-to-torque converter bolts.
  2. Remove the engine support bracket-to-transaxle bolts and the bracket. Lower the vehicle.
  3. Attach an engine hoist to the engine lift brackets and support the engine.
  4. Remove the radiator and heater hoses from the engine and position them aside.
  5. Label and disconnect the hoses from the vacuum modulator and canister purge lines.
  6. Label and disconnect the engine electrical wiring harness(es) and position them out of way.
  7. Remove the upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.
  8. Carefully remove the engine from the vehicle.

To install:
  1. Install the engine in the vehicle.
  2. Connect the reposition the engine electrical wiring harness, secure the bracket.
  3. Connect the hoses to the vacuum modulator and the canister purge lines.
  4. Install the radiator and the heater hoses.
  5. Remove the engine hoist. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6. Replace the engine support bracket-to-transaxle bolts.
  7. Replace the upper transaxle-to-engine bolts. Install the engine mount bolts and tighten to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  8. Install the torque converter and tighten the bolts to 46 ft. lbs. (62 Nm). Replace the flywheel cover.
  9. Install the lower transaxle-to-engine bolts, tighten to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
  10. Connect the power steering hydraulic lines to the power steering gear.
  11. Install the air conditioning compressor, if equipped.
  12. Install the starter and tighten the mounting bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
  13. Connect the electrical connections at the starter motor.
  14. Connect the driveline vibration absorber, if equipped.
  15. Install the exhaust pipe and replace the exhaust pipe-to-manifold bolts.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Connect the air flow sensor wiring. Install the hood assembly.
  18. Connect the negative battery cable. Refill the cooling system.
  19. Start the engine, allow it to reach normal operating temperatures and check for leaks.
