MY jeep cherokee,2.7 DIESEL 2002 mod starts for 2 seconds then stops.after cranking engine for a nother +- 15 sec it starts.i only use it once a week.

yes, engine ok, EFI bad.

no, bad engine, engine must be good to run.

EFI cant run bad engines..

so compression at spec......????



why beat the EFI to death,

all engines run on test fuel.

with gas engines, takes spark and good engine

on diesel, takes only good engine. simple huh (and some air)



for test fuel try diesel in a spray bottle into the injection port.

or use youtube on test fuel on any diesel car. or truck



this is called basics....... basic basics.

1: good engine, and pumps air ok. (must breath)

2: good fuel.

3: test fuel works now. if not check above.

try this first, make sure all doors are locked. Insert door key in drivers side door lock and turn key left for 3-5 seconds then turn to the right with a little pressure. open door. Insert key in ignition and turn to on ONLY! wait at least 30 seconds, then turn key to start allow to idle for a few minutes. If problem persists, the remote is not functioning properly. contact a locksmith for reprogramming or replacement. A lock shop will be cheaper than the dealer! Hope this helps you!

if it dont start did you check spark on all spark plugs (gas engine)
if diesel did you check the glow plugs.
does test fuel start car? even for 3 seconds.
if a gas car is the ASD relay dropping out. after running for 2 seconds?
yes, bingo.

you just need to relearn the idle hold your foot on the gas about 10-15%and let it run for a few min then slowly release the gas

oil pressure relief valve is a possibility or the oil pump is worn ,either way its a sump off job

ask a local mechanic to have a look ,must have a sensor problem somewhere but what?? it would need to do it with the mechanic driving it to know for sure whats wrong ,sorry if iam vauge but we only have diesels here a petrol like this isnt worth anything here maybe a 1000 euros if the right dummy comes along but a diesel manual of this year ?' then put another nought on the end

I would plump for the head gasket or even a cracked head between the combustion chamber and one of the valves

Alarms usually won't allow the engine to crank. If it is the alarm, arming then disarming it usually gets them to start. However, you probably aren't that lucky. Probably the most common problem for Cherokees with ignition issues is a crank sensor or a fuel pump. Listen to hear if the fuel pump runs when you turn the key to the run position (it will only run for 2 seconds, so have someone else turn the key while you listen at the gas filler neck)
